Working from Home

The good thing about working from home is that I don’t have to waste time sitting in traffic jams (believe me, if you work in KL, you waste a LOT of time sitting in traffic jams!!! 2-3 hours per day!!!!), I don’t have to waste time putting on make up, deciding what to wear, getting dressed with matching shoes………oh, so much time is saved! The good thing also is that T2 is nearby. I have comfort in knowing that she’s safe and well cared for.

The bad? I don’t get much interaction from people unless I make an effort to go out to see someone, like my bank manager or the client. My work space is also getting tight. We already live in a small apartment (OK, small because we just have too much stuff) but still, files are increasing as the company grows……

I can’t wait to start working in a real office (and I know exactly where it is too) but that would mean paying for lousy parking (paying for parking is one thing, FINDING it is another! – ALL time wasters), paying for lunch outside (as much as you bring your own lunch, you will still buy coffee from downstairs), that would mean more time taken away from work. At work, you will chat in the pantry, get disturbed by colleagues, freeze because of air-conditioning (I hate air-conditioning) but I guess all in all, there are pros and cons working at home and working in an office.

Which do I prefer? Having had both experiences now, I cannot decide!!! They are THAT equal. I know, all working Moms would choose to work from home but really, the grass is greener. There are pros and cons at both ends. I must qualify though, that when I do work from an office next time, my kids will still be allowed to follow their Mama in. That makes a BIG difference. I will build them a small little creche! Soundproof even better!

  1. if you ask me leh, i would say, go office 3 times a week or better still, as and when i feel like it! that would be, ooh, so goooood!!

  2. Definitely working in an office. No kids. It becomes a distraction to me. But agree that you become less efficient when you have more times on your hands, like me now – writing a response on your blog instead of working. Gulp!

  3. The ideal for me is 3 or 4 days at work and 1 day at home to catch up. Working at home f/time will not work for me. Will miss the interactions and face to face time with colleagues. When I work from home, I still get dressed ( in casual wear) and put makeup on too.

  4. I agree with you on not having to waste time (and brain cells) on what to wear, make up, traffic jams, parking, etc… My working friends always think I have it best, stay at home, etc… but yea, grass is always greener. I miss the decent adult interaction from working in an office though…

  5. While I miss the face to face interactions that one can get in the office, working from home is the best option for me right now 🙂
You know what? I actually do miss shopping and wearing office clothes!
