If you have been following this blog, you will know that visiting Masid Jamek was something I did last month. Here are some of the sights within this graceful yet elusive mosque in Kuala Lumpur that I’d like to share. The mosque is a landmark with a huge LRT train interchange beside it yet in all the bustlings of the city, it is completely serene the moment you enter. How does that happen?
Masjid Jamek is surrounded by a few buildings of which one is the back side of this. I never found out whose office this was but they certainly have a view of the mosque at high level.
I noticed that the mosque had Tudorian elements as displayed below, not very Islamic is it? I won’t be surprised, in fact, I’m quite sure it was designed by another British bloke – Arthur Bennison Hubback, to be exact, who also designed Carcosa…….
The location of the mosque is historically amiable because it is sat right where the rivers of KL confluence! This is exactly how Kuala Lumpur got her name. Below, you will see opposite the river, the HSBC HQ on Lebuh Ampang.
Below is exactly where the river confluences. At the back of the trees form a sharp point where the two rivers of Klang and Gombak meet.
Tried to get a shot but the trees were blocking and although I wanted to walk to the end, the guys were calling me to move on.
The interior of Masjid Jamek……without people.
The most hilarious building sighted from Masjid Jamek – AGRO BANK! What does that mean? Do you have to be agro to be a customer or is everyone really agro in there? Is it a warning? LOL! It is actually Malaysia’s agricultural bank……
The view of the beautiful copper dome, newly renovated and paid for by damn, I can’t remember now. There was a great story to this newly renovated dome! I swear, my memory has really gone to the pits after kids.
One last view of the Masjid Jamek station and Maybank Towers beyond.
And after we came out of the mosque, we saw this motorbike completely stripped off it’s wheels. Those who did it, obviously no fear of God.
Next part of our KL City Walk – the historical Sultan Abdul Samad (SAS) Building that witnessed MERDEKA!!! Once the Malayan Post Office Building, then the law courts, now the HQ for one of the Malaysian ministries who occupy a fraction of it and leaves the rest for death.
