At what age did your toddler start brushing her own teeth?
I’ve been trying to get Tee to start brushing her own teeth in the mornings and I would then do a thorough brush at night before bed. It saves me half the task. But my shorty can’t see our bathroom mirror and it is too dangerous to put her up on our bathroom counter.
For the last three weeks, I’ve been out and about, and each time I told myself that I needed to buy her a small stand alone mirror so she could brush her teeth whilst looking into the mirror. I have taught her how to brush and she is quite good at following the sequence. But she needs a mirror!
This Mommy has a memory of a big fat egg. I can’t even remember if I showered today. Serious!
So today, I exclaimed to my Mom for the thirtieth time, “Oh Shit! I forgot to get Tee’s mirror AGAIN!!!”
“What mirror? What mirror?” Mom asks, also blur, but due to old age.
I explained to her the purpose of the tooth brushing mirror and she said I could get those mirrors from Guardian. Or she could give me one of the chrome mirrors from her house. Chrome mirrors? I wouldn’t waste them on a toddler. I’ll just get a plastic mirror and be done with it.

Alyssa started brushing her own teeth at about 18 months probably because she copies everything her brother does, good and bad. We bought 2 little kiddie stools from IKEA so each of them could have their own.
They’re just tall enough for them to see themselves in the mirror but short enough so that Alyssa especially cannot grab things off the counter.
