This is MY GIRL

Yep. This is MY GIRL. My first born, my number one, my one and only loyal friend. This is MY GIRL who gave me the happiest, absolutely HAPPIEST day of my life. I still remember that day oh, so vividly with great detail. Noon. 13 September 2004. Loudest and hairiest baby in the nursery of Pantai Medical Centre. I could hear her screaming from my single bedroom when she was more than a hundred feet away and I told everyone, “Gosh, I hope that’s not her!!” But that voice just kept getting louder and louder and louder till it arrived at my doorstep. Shit. Little girl, I think you woke up all the other babies and all the other Moms, maybe even all the other patients in the entire hospital!!!

And when she was sent back to the nursery for bath time, you could spot her INSTANTLY. You only needed to flash a glance and you would see the baby with a full head of BLACK hair with a few strands of BLONDE. YEP. That was MY GIRL. My hairy, loud little monkey baby.

Fast forward a few years, she was the most precocious little girl at playgroups, at play school, at home. Gosh, she was a hand full. Make that two hands full and two feet full. Actually make that 4 hands full and 4 feet full because both the Hubs and I could not handle her. She was LOUDDDDD!!!!!!!!!! And the slightest turn of a page would wake her into hysterics!!!

And she had zero for attention span when she was 18 months old running around the classroom like a mad raving lunatic. Yet she absorbed everything. She was not shy. She was super confident. She was a happy kid.

And then she grew up…….

Into a young lady…….

Only too soon. *sobs*

Last year (2014) was a tough year for her. Incredibly tough, my poor, poor baby. She had to grow up super fast. It started off with a great year of Homeschooling followed by the most amazing 6 weeks to Europe ever.

Then all of a sudden, my Mother-in-law passed away. Then I was diagnosed with my heart valve problem. That must’ve been so terrifying for her. The my own mother passed away and T1 cried for weeks. Bless her gentle soul. Due to my illness, she had to take over the role as Mommy and take care of T2, bathe her, feed her, cook for the family. She had to learn all these skills extra fast and had to basically run the household. At barely 10. But as she progressed, she became really good at it. Now she can handle the stove and the oven entirely on her own at 10. At that age, I had barely cooked my first fried egg!!! T1 can bake more than a dozen varieties of cakes/cookies/scones. She can even make local desserts such as Sago Melaka and Ondeh-Ondeh. All by herself. She can cook pasta, make home made noodles, chop anything there is to chop, she can cook rice and all sorts of dishes just by following a recipe. Any recipe. She’s my free maid. And although people think RM75 for pocket money is a bit much for a 10 year old, heck I think she deserves every penny of it. And guess what she has been doing with her money every week? Spending very little and saving most of it!!! This girl is SO SENSIBLE. Whenever I want to shop, she will stop me by giving me all the reasons in the world. SO BORING!!! Aiyohhh!!! Whereas T2 on the other hand would say, BUY!!! But I still love this girl to death. I really do. She truly is my BFF because whenever I have a problem, she will solve it. She just sees things from a young adult’s perspective and did I say she was oh, so sensible again???

She also taught herself to sew and recently sewed some pouches for her Uncle and Aunt in Chiangmai and one for me too. She started off with Barbie doll clothes for T2 and is now asking when she can handle the sewing machine. Heck, I need to find it first! I know we have a very good sewing machine SOMEWHERE in this 1,800 square feet called home but I just don’t know where exactly it’s hidden.

This year she wanted to go back to school so we paid that hefty fees to put her back in school. Could’ve gotten a new car for it. Darn, we could get a new car every year. But never mind. It is a good education that they are getting, not so much the academic part of it, but their happiness and the camaraderie between teachers and friends, the discipline that they have to adhere to and the fun that they have at school. So much fun until they wake up extra early to bug us to take them to school. WTF. I have zero involvement in their school activities.

In fact, T1 is T2’s school home tutor – LOL. *hides in shame for this delegation* Every week, when T2 gets homework, it is T1 who advises T2 on her required homework (as T2 still cannot read) and checks it etc. Maybe I should pay T1 even more, huh? For doing that part of my job too. She is just amazing, my girl. I thank God every single day for her in my life. So did my Mom. So does my brother. T1, she just has these qualities (not all perfect) but born a really, really good person. She is just lovely, if I dare say so myself. And the thing is, I say it not with the belief that I raised her but that she is my gift from God. Really. Her wonders have nothing to do with me. It is purely God placing her in my care, as children are from Heaven, and I was blessed to be the chosen one to be able to learn from T1. God is amazingly kind to me.

And apart from the many lessons that she imparts to me, she is also damn hilariously funny. And sarcastic. Uhuh. Pressing T2’s buttons ALL THE TIME. But I have to admit, some of the things she says crack me up so hard that I cannot even protect T2’s feelings because they are just too funny. Poor T2. Always getting the brunt of our jokes. It’s OK, it’ll only make her stronger and more independent with her emotions. Heh.

My dearest, darling T1, I know I have told you time and again how much I love you and I am sure I have shown you too how much I love you, but I just want to say it again and again and show it again and again till you start shoo-ing me away and call me the old broken record, and even then, I will still always love you unconditionally. Whether or not you can sing or get a part in your annual school production, whether or not you score only an average grade for your Cambridge Checkpoint Examinations this year, whether or not you choose to make tons of money or close to nothing, but if you ever not take great care of your little sister, I will kill you.
