The Work of A Cobbler

It was the girls first day back to school to start the new academic year today! They woke up moaning because they have been sleeping late for three whole weeks and suddenly waking at 6am was a challenge, like Duh?! It’s not like I didn’t force them to bed a week earlier but those monkeys just kept chitty-chitty-bang-bang chatter-chatter all night long till I got tired of yelling. Serves them right. But when school was over, they were SO EXCITED and said they LOVED school all over again and yada-yada-yada. Even T2!!!

I cannot believe my girl is in secondary. I just cannot. She will always be my baby. My number one baby.

Now all her same teachers are teaching T2 and they all remember! They remember when T1 was the little primary student at Reception and Year 1 and I was always at school being the Helicopter Parent with T2 as a baby in my Baby Bjorn or Ergo Carrier. I would come several days of the week in the hot sun to watch T1 swim because I was paranoid about her falling into the pool and drowning. Thank goodness she can now swim and I no longer have that worry so much.

Today after school, I brought them out to observe a street cobbler. We could’ve easily gone to Bangsar Village but that would have taken away the magic in watching a traditional cobbler work. T1 needed to punch some holes in her secondary school ugly belt so off we went hunting for a street cobbler and the girls were so excited that we found him! It cost RM3 to punch 3 holes. I didn’t give him RM3 of course. He had provided us with so much more value.

I had initially thought he would just use a hole puncher to punch her belt but he actually used a cast iron tool to hammer the hole through! It was fun! The girls loved watching him and even wanted to have a go! But I said no, because you know what would happen right? The hole will be in all the wrong places……*rolls eyes* and I would have to pay for a brand new school belt.

Pinch me, I cannot believe my first born is in secondary school with a tie and a blazer carrying a laptop to school. SO GROWN UP!!!

What does that say about me???

I sure ain’t no spring chicken no more but hey, I’m more alive than many of the spring chickens out there!!!!
