Be the ANCHOR for your FAMILY because a family that eats together sticks together

Family Gatherings

Ever since I can remember, Mom was always the host for Gabriel Christmas dinners.

Year after year, it was one big kahuna party. We’d have 30-40 people over, tables set outside in the garden with fairy lights, music on speakers, alcohol for the adults, and that long wait for midnight sitting under the Christmas Tree.

The Food – Portuguese Style

She cooked it all : Shepherd’s Pie, Roast Beef, Roast Lamb, Roast Chicken, our famous Portuguese Chilli Chicken, Assam Prawns, Chinese Soup, Portuguese Devil’s Curry, various vegetable dishes that always included a salad, and the desserts she made!!

Oh my gosh, the desserts she made….. Family recipes passed down from generations.

Why do you do it, Mom?

All the years…. so much work… why don’t we just eat out or cater ?!?

Tradition

This is tradition. You have to be the ANCHOR for your family. Someone needs to be the ANCHOR to bring the family together, or it will just not happen.

What, because we are women?!?

No, because women are the stronger sex. If we left it up to the men….??

That day, I knew I would be the ANCHOR too for my family once Mom was no longer around.

And so I started being the host for family gatherings, very happy to be the ANCHOR for my family.

That is when the sand doesn’t keep shifting because it is very hard being an ANCHOR otherwise.

My dearest cousin is taking over this year and I am so proud of her.
