Tee’s First School Field Trip

We inched up at nightime (to me! after sleeping at 5am), to catch the big orange school bus to the National Bird Park today. Now, Tee has sat on several tour buses in her lifetime, even open-aired ones but the big orange school bus? That was her dream! It was her indication of independence, a sign she was now a big girl, ready to take on the world.

7am in the morning – a big smile for the camera before we left the house.

I am very pleased with Tee’s school for organising the whole adventure of midget terrorists without a glitch. I tagged along as a parent volunteer only to be nosy. A spy, really. Only 3 moms were allowed. There were 10 midgets in total and 5 constables allocated to handcuffing 2 kids each, one on each hand, for the ENTIRE trip. And then there was me (photographer) and another 2 senior teachers (1 to carry the First Aid Box and another to open doors, have eyes for an overview of the group, just as an extra).

When we arrived at school, all kids were forced to toilet, and allowed only their water bottles to bring along the trip, as a security measure, which were placed into their respective constable’s bags. Terrorists with their own bags are highly suspect. Then they were individually smeared with insect repellant and sunblock. As an extra preventive measure, a mosquito repellant sticker was slapped onto their backs. Name tag identification with the school’s full details were stuck on their backs too, high up where they couldn’t reach it. You can never trust these terrorists.

They then marched down the school steps and were hoisted into the large orange tank which had been roaring since we’d arrived, causing one of the male terrorists to break down and go beserk. Let’s call it a total freak out bus phobia.

Tee struts out of school, swaggering mafia style, towards the orange tank.

Holy Moly!!! This tank is BUMPY, MUMMY!!! (Is the driver Malaysian, by any chance?)

The moment we arrived, Tee wasn’t so sure she liked the Bird Park obstacle course. Nobody told her that the birds were free to roam about AROUND her. No, this was definitely not part of the plan.

Pondering…….

Identify Tee, the most dangerous midget terrorist of all.

An hour later, she did not like the bird park one bit. Although she conceptually liked the idea of meeting all the birds she was familiar with, she hated the fact that they could come near enough to touch her. She thought she may die of bird flu. You can’t be too complacent about these things. So she tricked her constable into carrying her, switching gears, from life-threatening terrorist to damselle in distress.

Not before long, most of the terrorists were grumbling, tired from walking and they all wanted to be carried. And they were hungry. So the team rushed along; with the teachers giving a bird reportage to the kids the entire journey, snack time, playground, then back to the orange tank. Which was when Tee lighted up again and started her high-on-ecstacy performance.

  1. oh i am impressed! msia’s education system has indeed come a long way since my days hahaha. i hope it’s not limitted to just the few expensive preschools?

btw, tee looks so darn adorable in her uniform 😀 cairo will be wearing something similar next july (yeah, her second school), i can’t wait to get a pic of it 😀

Hmmm….I’ll be a bit more cynical and say it is possibly limited to the more expensive preschools. Otherwise the cheaper preschools won’t be able to afford so many teachers to come along, no? Oh….same uniform? Coolio….which branch?

  2. Hahaha, it’s so good to see a child with such a very happy face! Tee obviously had a great field day!

Yes, she did! I even have a video taken on my phone to prove it. She was extremely psychotic. But I don’t know how to download it unfortunately…..

  3. That pic of her with the hat on is lovely. What a smile!
She takes such a nice photo.

Looks like she had a wonderful time.

    Thank you, NP!

  4. btw—I wanted to tell you that I love the look of your blog—so elegant and the colors are lovely.

Also, thank you for including my blog on your roll. I’ve been remiss in not thanking you sooner.
    Yours is on mine, too.

    Thank you, again, NP. *smile*
