T2 and her relationship with Eric Carle

We have practically every single Eric Carle book except this one – Papa, please get the Moon for me.

Firstly, ever since T2 came into being, I’d hardly spent any time with her reading because I was so busy juggling 2 kids without a maid and everything else. If anything, T1 read to T2 or I’d read to them BOTH at the same time. So when T2 hit 2, I started wondering if she really wasn’t into books at all because up to that point, she’d shown no interest.

Then came the British Nanny……….

And now T2 LOVES books. She can even ‘read’ to you – pretend read…..so full of expression!

I was amazed at how long this particular book fascinated her. She found it in Kota Bharu and couldn’t put it down for close to an hour. Whilst everyone watched TV in the bedroom, T2 was glued to her book. We’d read it to her a few times already but she never got tired of it.

.

The story is about a little girl who thinks the moon is so beautiful…….

.

And asks her Papa to get the moon down for her……..

.

So her Papa grabs a long, looooooooooooong ladder and starts walking to the highest mountain to start his climb up the ladder………..

.

The book folds open to illustrate just how long the ladder is!

.

It is also a great book because the moon changes size, which allows for discussion on why the moon is sometimes big and round and sometimes not.

.

Papa loves his little girl so much that he climbs up the ladder to bring her the moon……….I know the Hubs would get the moon for his girls any day. He just won’t admit it.

.

Suddenly, she got distracted by her sister……..and I thought, that’s it. She’ll be moving on to something else now.

.

But no. She crawled towards her sister and began reading her book again……as you can see, here, she’s fascinated with the colourful stars when she finally finished the book.

.

And what does the big sis do? Play iPad.

  1. Among the Eric Carle’s books, my son too love this book to bits. He’s fascinated with the moon and the long ladder.
