Don’t tell me you got married without knowing what your wedding band means?! OK, I’ didn’t. It’s just what everyone did and to be very honest, the Hubs and I don’t even wear our wedding bands. Me, because it won’t fit anymore and the Hubs, because he thinks wearing jewellery will propel him to fag city. Good excuse, huh?
I’ve learnt today though that a Wedding Band is round because it symbolises continuity, so never ever wear a square wedding band no matter how in style it is. Then, wearing it on your left hand ring finger is such because your ring finger connects the main artery to your heart. So romantic, huh? And of course, the wedding band is a pledge of love that you will only love ONE person and stay faithful throughout, forever and ever.
It is even better if your wedding band has diamonds, because the diamonds will make your marriage strong. Hmm….thank goodness my wedding band has diamonds but I don’t think it has anything to do with my strong marriage! In fact, I wanted to change the diamond setting because the workmanship wasn’t very good but my mother forbidded me to. Traditionally, if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. So I have to live with my imperfect wedding band *sob*
A Promise Ring is presented when someone is seriously dating and wants to acknowledge that fact. It is symbolic to mean, I am dating you seriously, or I am not just sleeping with you for pleasure. Haha….
An Eternity Ring is given as a renewal of a strong, lasting marriage and is very special because it symbolises everlasting love, despite all the years you’ve been through together. It is also known as a dress wedding band because it has diamonds all around it. Hmmm…..I don’t have an eternity ring. Hmmm…….
A Trilogy ring is representative of the past, present and the future and can be given at anytime, married or not. I couldn’t find much data on the Trilogy Ring apart from Lord of The Rings but know that it is a message of commitment. It comprises three diamonds with the middle one being the strongest. Hmmm……come to think fo it, I don’t have a Trilogy ring either…….
The reason people engrave their names onto their wedding bands is so it becomes a sentimental family heirloom. My mother has given me the wedding rings of all the men she has ever divorced so err……yeah, I’ll keep them and cherish them forever. I think?
There you go, that’s my short lesson on wedding bands.
