Since when did Halloween come to Malaysia?!

When I was Tee’s age, Halloween did not exist. It was just a fairytale that we heard of and knew was American. These days, even International Poop Day is celebrated in Malaysia.

So my girl has been observing all these Halloween posters around town announcing parties what with all the orange pumpkin buckets laid out at Toys ‘R’ Us, she now suddenly wants to attend a Halloween party. Not a birthday party, not just any party, but a scawy Halloween party! Except that none of the commercial Halloween parties cater to her wee age!

Have you ever tried explaining to a three year old that she isn’t qualified to attend the party on the poster because it is for older kids?

“I’m big girl! I dwink lots of milk! I can go!”

Luckily for me, a Mom at her school happens to be organising a Halloween party purely for the three year olds although we weren’t initially invited since we were from a different class. But this angel Mom, upon hearing the story of how badly Tee wanted to attend a Halloween party, sent us an invite straight away.

Then, Tee says she wants to dress up as a monkey witch. A what?! You heard right. So we joked with her seeing that she was born in the year of the monkey and was already a monkey, we only needed to get her a witch costume.

That wouldn’t do, of course. Grumbles and gripes. She had to be a MONKEY witch. Not an OLD LADY witch.

So we told her that we would draw her face to look like a monkey. And she’d wear her witch cloak, hat and broom. She agreed. Problem solved. YAHOO!

However, I discovered this jungle store that sells all kinds of animal masks. They have costumes and masks for every animal so if your kid ever wanted to dress up as a crab, zebra or panda bear, it’s all available. I’m definitely putting this site in my Favourites under Babies and Children because Tee might request for a frog themed party next year!

Best to be prepared for whinings I can do without. [rolls eyeballs]
