Show and Tell at school

My sole purpose of sending Tee to school is so she can get out of my hair. I don’t care if she doesn’t know her ABCs nor her 123s, I don’t care if she eats her school food or not (which surpasses my own cooking by far) and I don’t care if she gets told off, shoved around or punished. As far as I’m concerned, she can do whatever she likes at school, as long as it doesn’t involve me. I have my own agenda in the mornings and I do not want to be disturbed by anything whiny nor that has anything to do with school.

But as luck would have it, the darn school makes us parents select an object for ‘Show and Tell’ TWICE A WEEK; and that’s not all, we even have to LABEL our child’s name on said object AND we have to ensure that the said objects are relevant to the ‘letter of the week’. FARK. As though I have nothing else better to do with my life than search her school syllabus to check what letter it really is this week or crack my head flipping through dictionaries on what begins with the letter ‘i’ that Tee doesn’t yet know.

This morning, Tee brought an ice-pack to school for ‘Show and Tell’. I usually prime her before school to ensure she knows what the said object is; no point bringing an ice-pack in for ‘Show and Tell’ if you think it’s a weapon for hitting other children with, right?

So after school, I asked Tee if she went on stage to do ‘Show and Tell’ and she said no. Never believing my own child, I asked her boyfriend (who happened to be there), if Tee did ‘Show and Tell’ today and he said YES! I was excited and asked her what she said for ‘Show and Tell’ about her ice-pack?

“Nothing.”

I turned to ask her boyfriend if she said nothing at ‘Show and Tell’ and he shook his little head.

Finally when we got into the car, I asked her,

“So if you didn’t do ‘Show and Tell’ and you didn’t do painting and you didn’t do colouring, what did you do in school???”

*pause*

“I farted.”

I burst out in hysterics. “You FARTED in school! Oh dear! Does your teacher know??? Is that what you learned in school???”

She started laughing hysterically too and warned me not to tell her teacher which, of course, I started scribbling furiously amidst laughter in her school communications booklet which gets passed to and fro between parents and teachers everyday about how cheeky this little rascal is and to find out what she REALLY said for ‘Show and Tell’.
