Sexy Girls of The Night in Bangkok

THE STORY GOES…………….

Before we went to Bangkok, I was under the impression that Saturday was the night to celebrate my birthday and I had brought along a classy dress (which I was threatened to bring), high heels and Chanel accessories all prepared, knowing that PL had organised dinner at some swanky restaurant (as she was researching restaurants whilst the cheap me wondered, why are we going to Bangkok to eat at a posh restaurant???). But I let it be thinking maybe the girls wanted to dress up and we couldn’t exactly eat street food looking like we were there to party, could we?

I had also invited an old friend from Bangkok to join us for my birthday dinner but at the last minute, she had some other engagements leaving me rather disappointed because I had really wanted to see her.

Considering I had barely 2 hours sleep before catching the plane and then walking all day after that, I begged for a short nap before Friday night dinner and we agreed to be ready at 7pm. But when 7pm came, we were still dog tired and I pushed dinner back to 730pm but by 730pm, I was still not ready. Sigh….what’s the rush? After all, we’d been eating all day and snacking so neither of us should technically be starving! I took my own sweet time to complete the rock chick look (I didn’t know that Friday was going to be my birthday dinner night instead of Saturday so I wore my biker chick outfit instead – bah!). But not before confirming with the girls that we were going to take a cab and not do ANY walking because these biker heels? They were not meant for walking. The only time I can wear them, is when I go for an all night SIT DOWN dinner. I cannot even drive in them because the heels are too high as I’d learnt one night and had to unlace each foot to drive barefoot!

So guess which legs belong to moi?

PL was rather excited and kept raving on about this gourmet restaurant that never received a single mediocre review but I really wasn’t bothered because hello, we’re in Bangkok!!! Not Paris!! Nevertheless, we hailed a taxi and finally left the hotel in search for La Table de Tee…….again my mind kept spinning, why are we in Bangkok to eat at a French sounding restaurant???

Never mind….just follow. Through Bangkok’s moderate traffic at 8pm, we finally arrived at the street of the restaurant except that we had gone down the whole street and did not spot the restaurant. Crap. I was about to suggest let’s just go to the nearest restaurant because I don’t want to walk when PL told the cab to stop and instructed us to get off.

At that moment, my eyeballs were doing about 20 huge rolls per minute. What happened to we were not walking that night? #*$$@@&&@#$!!! *imagination required*

To cut a long story short, the taxi had brought us to the WRONG street. He had brought us to a very busy street where the side walk was literally five feet wide with only 2 feet of cobbled walking space and broken drain gratings because the entire side walk was occupied by street vendors. We could have been in hooker city for all I knew but all I could think of at that moment was to brave the pain from my blistering feet keeping myself from twisting my ankle on the uneven side walk and mentally strengthened those calves so that God forbid, I wouldn’t fall like a hippo into an adjacent drain. For that would have been quite a story, wouldn’t it?

My mother, bless her, and that really is what Moms are for, followed me closely behind whilst the other 2 rushed about making phone calls frantically in search of said restaurant. At one point, we even lost them in the sea of activity. There we were, in our party dresses and high, high heels, all made up like Moulin Rouge performers, strutting up and down the streets of Bangkok in an area where we could not further belong. The thing is, my mother, she could have walked along with them, helped them even, but something told me she was truly worried that her heavy biker chick Harley daughter was in real danger of collapsing from all that walking in those heels! Thus she stayed close. I love my Mama so much…..Thank you, Mama, because if you hadn’t been beside me, I would have cried like a big baby!

Half way through that MORE THAN ONE KILOMETER WALK in F*CKING SUPER HIGH HEELS ON UNEVEN GROUND, my phone rang and although it was no time to be answering the phone since I had to concentrate on every step, the blinking phone kept buzzing!!! So finally, I opened my bag to whip it out thinking perhaps the girls had found the right restaurant but who would it be but T1 missing her Mama from Kuala darling Lumpur.

BAD TIMING!!!!!!!!!!!!

BAD, BADDDDDDDD TIMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After taking a few puffs of my inhaler, I chatted to T1 for a bit (with my PRETEND NICE VOICE) and then politely excused myself  for she would have talked on forever and I really would have ended up in that drain.

Thankfully, after what felt like a 5 kilometer walk in heels, we finally arrived at La Table de Tee but had it been Le Putain de Merde or Le Manger de Diamantes, I really wouldn’t have given a shit (pun intended).

All I could think of was my painful, VERY painful legs and feet. All that hippo body weight narrowed into those skinny ankles…….Mind you they did not stop aching the next day!

I stormed into the dark restaurant, tired and hungry, sweating from my inner pores and just wanting some cold water when PL yelled out, “Look who’s here?!”

Did I look like I cared? DID I??? Even if it had been Gabriel Aubry in his towel, I would have probably kicked his balls with my biker chick heels!!! Wait a minute. I need to rethink that one.

But suddenly, I saw a familiar face. It looked like my old Thai friend, the one who spoke fluent French. The one who had rejected me for my birthday dinner. What was she doing there?

Everything became a fuzz as the brain slowly started putting things together. Did PL know her? How did PL know her? I was thoroughly confused. Was it a coincidence? What was she doing there? From my very PISSED OFF MIND, BODY and SOUL, everything unfolded very slowly; and there is a lesson to be learnt here – never enter a meeting wanting to get things done when you’re pissed off. Your brain is totally cluttered with bad energy.

So ten hundred minutes later, when it FINALLY sunk in that THAT WAS WHY we had to come to this frigging restaurant with nothing less entertained, all the bad energy I had accumulated within the biker chick facade in the last hour, dissipated as quick as a flash.

IT WAS A SET UP!!!

It was beautiful surprise. A beautiful memory. And a beautiful evening. One that will always bring back stitches of laughter and the knowing of love and true friendship, because just you wait till I tell you the story about the BURNING PAPER NAPKINS. That happened that very night during dessert and we were VERY LUCKY to have come out alive as the whole restaurant could have burned down!

Did you like that story?
