I wrote earlier about how I was asked by the Hubs to research bank loans in order to refinance our current deal? Well, it’s a DONE DEAL and I am SO PROUD of myself ? A little effort but all worth it. First of all, did you guys know that when you have a housing loan, that you can save an incredible amount of money if you were to pay it daily instead of monthly? Well, we didn’t know that! And did you also know that you could save money if you took out money from your housing loan to pay off your car loans completely (although this could limit your flexibility)? Bear in mind that interest rates on housing loans and car loans are calculated differently. So, that’s what we did. Juggled things around and moved on to a new bank.
Our current bank didn’t budge much when we requested for a rate adjustment and although the Hubs was ready to accept their offer, I felt that stronger negotiation was required. I called all the banks up to enquire. To be honest, we just have a thing with local banks because their service is just not quite there. This is a generalisation, of course, and no offense intended for anyone who does work in a local bank. Unless an employee really impresses me, I’m good to stay away. And no, none of them did impress me. To cut a long story short, we’ve finally selected OCBC for our new refinance of our housing loan as they not only had the best rates but the best service. Seriously? The guy has been out to meet us anywhere we require, every time we needed him to, and because of that, the loan has been approved and processed within the week. It feels great.
Our previous loan was from UOB and they took THREE MONTHS to revert with an offer. THREE MONTHS (and out of that time, do you know how many times I had to call them to chase them?) versus one week. UOB obviously doesn’t need our business. We’ve already fully paid up another housing loan with them so it’s time to move with the times. We’ll be saving tens of thousands with OCBC and look forward to paying up this property within the next few years – yay!

Citibank is just as bad and CIMB is worst (local bank, service is as expected). Hmmmm.. maybe I should call OCBC ! Thanks for naming the banks.
