Routine Doctor’s Visit at Two Months Old

Wow! I never expected my breasts to be so powerful! T2, from the day we came back from the hospital (55 days later) has grown a stretchy 11cm in length (can you believe that?! who in the world grows 11cm in less than 2 months?!) and 2.55kg in weight! She is now 57cm long and weighs 4.75kg – no wonder my back has started breaking.

Poor T2 was succumbed to TWO hard jabs on her left AND right thigh yesterday which made her wail, but only for less than a minute. She was fretful all day after that though as both her thighs were red and swollen. The 2 jabs comprised Hepatitis B, Tetanus, Whooping Cough, Pneumococcal Disease, Polio and Meningitis. On top of that, she was given orally, something to prevent Rotavirus. Gosh, such a cocktail of immunisation drugs, I’ll be surprised if she doesn’t become a drug addict by the times she hits 10. These pharmaceuticals are really into drugging babies and getting rich, aren’t they? How many people do you know who have actually contracted any one of the above diseases?

I had 10 questions for the Doctor and this is why I love my girls’ doctor – he sits patiently and answers all my questions. My questions were:

1.     Her belly button protrudes when she cries – is this normal? Yes, her abdominal muscles have not fully closed so her belly button sticks out when she cries because she uses her muscles. This should stop by the time she turns one. It is a very slight umbilical hernia.

2.     Her ears have cradle cap and is flaking like a monthly snake skin change – what should I do? Just use baby oil and gently clean it.

3.     Her tiny, tiny vagina has some white discharge trapped within the folds – how should I clean it? With some facial cotton dabbed in water. It is important to clean as poo gets in sometimes and if not cleansed, thrush may form.

4.     She has a red spot on her right eye that comes and goes – what is it? This is a kind of birth mark, a dilated blood vessel. It will also go away in time. Perfectly normal.

5.     She cries every time before a wee. Is this normal? – This is tricky but generally, babies cry due to discomfort and the sensation when you are about to wee is discomforting to them. However, it could also be that she has an infection though she has no fever or vomitting; thus perfectly normal. If she does start having a fever or signs of vomitting, then we should look into it.

6.     When can she start swimming in a public pool?  – She can technically start now but that would expose her to more diseases. Now is actually the best time to put her into a pool because her memory of being inside the womb is still there but you don’t want to expose her to infections of the outside world. So unless you have a private pool that is clean of diseases…….and even then, why are you in such a hurry to make her swim? (after which I told him I was an amateur National Swimmer so my girls had to learn how to swim, haha….)

7.     Her head is really big and oval shaped. Turning it around doesn’t work as she cannot sleep upright…..how can I make it round? – She is fine! The best way to mould a round head is to sleep in a bouncy sarong, but no need! This is why God gave us hair!! To hide our off shaped heads! Don’t worry, she will grow out of this head!! And everything will look proportionate one day. Right now, she doesn’t have control of her head yet so that is why she keeps sleeping on her sides……

T2’s EGG HEAD – she cannot sleep facing the ceiling because the head is too big!

8.     She won’t take a pacifier nor a bottle, how can I make her? – You can’t. She is just a smart baby. You can try a rubber nipple as opposed to a silicon nipple as it resembles the human nipple more but if she doesn’t want it, you cannot force her. However, if she is hungry enough, she would take the nipple if it has breast milk in it.

9.     Will this cocktail of drugs be OK for such a tiny baby? – Yes, they have designed for babies and researched upon.

10.    She had another bout of oral thrush in her mouth, what is causing it? – You now need to start making sure her hands are clean because she is starting to suck her arms and fingers…..Ahhhh…..

Thankfully, Tee was shoved off to a friend’s place from after school till after dinner so I only had to deal with a screaming baby and not a screaming baby AND a whiny one!

Oh, and do you know what the Doctor’s nurses said after scrutinising T2 carefully??????? They said she is one smart baby and will never have to do any housework. This baby was born to be a see-lai-lai (tai-tai?)……Hahaha……I guess it runs in the genes.

The Hubs is not happy.

  1. She has a very nice head shape. Don’t let her sleep on back, otherwise will be flat headed. We used sarong but didn’t fold her ears back in and after sometime, she ended up with ears like Dumbo and then we resorted to taping her ears back during sleeptime. I love babies,, they are so up to us to mould.. LOL !!!

  2. I love this kinda head shape. All my children have this kind head coz I make them sleep on their tummy. With this oval shape head, tying ponytail is easier and looks nicer too compared to those having flat heat. And yes, they can’t sleep upright!!! hahaha

  3. Eh her head shape is very nice what. Wow she sure is heavy! Your bm is indeed very powerful! Re: cradle cap, Buds has a lotion which you apply with a cotton wool and it will be absorbed. I used it on B3 and it works wonderfully! Sold in all Caring pharmacies or Mom’s Care at 1U.
