That would be me.
Last weekend, it was T1’s birthday celebration. We’re still celebrating, by the way. It seems to be a long, drawn out affair this time round that she’s organised and planned all by herself. I think it is influence as I remember some years ago where I had a month long birthday celebration. Damn. I could really do with NO birthday celebrations at all but for T1, I’ll go with it.
The lass wanted me to take her and one chosen friend to Kidzania for the first time. I’ve been putting off this Kidzania thing for the longest time but it was her birthday now and I could do it no longer. So we woke up last Saturday morning at 8am and got into Kidzania by 945am, where I walked and stood for 5 solid hours carrying a bag comprising 2 Ikea stools and a metal foldable stool. Why the heck did I do that? Because I heard earlier on that you had to stand for hours in queues and shit so I brought my own stools to sit! However, we didn’t need them at all because we were not only always on the move but there were plenty of stools scattered around the whole park. I kept telling myself it was OK as it was a muscle building exercise.
We didn’t even stop for lunch, yo! That’s how much the kids were into it. I’ll blog about the nits and the grits of Kidzania later but we ended up having lunch at 430pm in Publika. Shopped for balloons and other last minute birthday delights for her ‘family’ birthday party the next day. By the time I got home at 6pm, I literally crashed for half an hour before I had to get up to get dressed to go out again.
An hour later, I was out at a swanky bar with my client and their clients laughing our guts out and drinking bottles of vodka. At 3am, I finally stumbled home and did not sleep till 6am for I had had too much caffeine and research to do. Bless the Hubs, he had filled the balloons up the night before whilst I was out and bless him again for the next morning, he started cooking knowing full well I’d be hungover. And boy was I…….and our guests were arriving in less than 2 hours!
We had an intimate little birthday gathering for the number one star of our lives, just family, and she was a happy clucky chick as she’d had her wish of having her whole little family with her and received a nice birthday present. But still, she had more demands! She now wants me to bake cupcakes for all her friends at school this Thursday and bring them a special lunch!
All this is happening when my company is going through it’s final year end audit and we’re preparing for the AGM and I’ve got a million and one things on my plate with work. Also, my mother is sick and I’m constantly worrying about her, thinking what to bring her for lunch the next day. I almost never see my husband as he works late. My whole life is a whirlwind of honey strings.
I intend to change that though. This month, I promised myself that I’d get a total of 6 hours sleep each day. It has been difficult considering I got an average 3-4 hours sleep for the last few years. When I have 7, I have had way too much and wake up feeling lethargic but at 4-5 hours, I’m real good. However, I’ve been forcing myself to just lie in bed for that extra hour till I hit my 6 hour quota and it’s worked. The body is slowly adjusting to the 6 hour minimum. I’ve also promised myself that I’d workout at least 4 times per week. My last promise is to make a real effort in cutting out the cake, despite all the birthdays……..Let’s see where I stand next month in this.
I’m also making a real effort to work less. I absolutely force myself to stay off work during the weekends. Weekends are purely kids time now and well, I guess you’ll be seeing less blogs as I intend to lessen that too. There is just so much to do that I am not coping so well and need to find some balance. I really want to get the house sorted as it’s just one big tornado right now. Baby steps……..
All this has caused a sudden spurt of white hair. Not good!
I remind myself that this isn’t forever. I am only super busy for this short period of time but one day, one fine day, we will be planted in a cottage in England sipping tea whilst the kids run around the open garden and really smelling the roses……
And it will all be worth it.
