Publika with Kids

Thanks to Godpa Soorya, we were informed of this initiative by Publika every Sunday morning. Publika at Solaris Dutamas closes off their internal roads to vehicles so that families can cycle, run, scoot, roller-blade etc on safe roads from 7-10am. How awesome is that!!!

We promised to meet him there at 730am but alas, it was not to be.

Because I had only had 5 hours total sleep since Thursday and Friday night, I was feeling pretty zonked but thought I could still heck it after a good night’s sleep on Saturday but of course, T2 had to wake up to puke! URGH! So naturally, we did not make it at 730am but at 9am instead. *pats myself on back*

So we went to cycle but they didn’t have a bike that would fit T1 nor T2 although they had a lot of bikes for rent, even tandem bikes! We then resolved that we needed to get T1 a new bike for this sole purpose since there was now a reason to bike in safe confines.

After scooting around with her mini scooter, we had a gorgeous breakfast at Marmalade, which was nice with it’s indoor play area and outdoor playground, and the vast outdoor deck!

After breakfast, the kids put guns to our heads and insisted on some playground time…..

T1 is still pretty weak at the Monkey Bars so we’ll bring her here more often for practice. She is very determined!

.

The space is perfect for kids to just run around………great chill out space!

After the playground, we went to Ben’s Independent Grocer (BIG) to check it out. We were well impressed!!! I’d just gone to BV the day before and had my receipts still in my wallet so out it flipped and I got to make a like for like comparison.

*like*

Loved that customers could pick and choose their herbs and vegetables from fresh sprigs beautifully laid out in cooler boxes. Vegetables and fruit were also very well organised. All herbs went into one section. Cheeses had their own cheese room. Pasta has it’s own section. And so on…..It’s really cool. I could be in there all day…….any day.

.

The Hubs said we needed to buy all these herbs and grow them ourselves…..as though we have the time!!! Nor the space!!!

.

After inhaling BIG and completely falling in love with it (we even interviewed the fish monger inside), we had some Boost Juice and walked around. I love Publika for it’s artsy-fartsy concept – there are art sculptures everywhere that get changed every so often.

.

It’s great!

.

It reminds me of Architecture School. Yes, this is what I did at Architecture School; play with ideas, build on them and sell them to investors. Not learn about buildings. But the best part about Publika surely is that it isn’t crowded and I don’t get to bump into anyone. LOVE!

.

After our chicken rice lunch, we made some home-made popcorn for the first time ever! And what gave me this idea??? I learnt from Get Active’s Nutrition Class that we could pop our own pop corn at home and have ANY flavour we wanted and it was THE best!!! By popping your own pop corn, you can control the amount of butter and sugar you put in it and it is certainly healthier than GSC’s and TGV’s pop corn!

Organic pop corn at that!!!

T1 kept suggesting we watched a home movie……

Ahhhhh……….it was a glorious day of FAMILY TIME. No distractions, just the Hubs and I (with Godpa Soorya for the morning) and our two smelly monkeys. After all that, T1 still managed to practise her piano, did her Math homework for school (985 divided by 18 kind of stuff, bloody hell!) and wrote 2 Bahasa essays as she has a test tomorrow. I got some work done, the Hubs did his monthly expenses and T2 played with her toys and messed up the entire house.

A brilliant Sunday.

  1. Ben’s Independent Grocer is definitely something. Everyone who goes there will fall in love with that place. Me included 😀

  2. just a question out of topic, doesn’t your T2 require afternoon nap? I have a toddler born in Oct 2009 and if there is no afternoon nap that day, I will be in BIG trouble:<

  3. I was at Publika last Sat and also at BIG. I found some stuff more pricey that Village Grocer eg. the shaved parmesan and spreadable butter which I HAD to buy from BIG for dinner that night. And hey, I had chicken rice too. RM6.90 for a damn good portion! The chilli and ginger sauces were sucky unfortunately. Love that they have Chatime there too.

  4. I love, love Publika! And Solaris Dutamas, too! I could just wander around the place the whole day and take in the space and artsy-fartsy exhibits around. =)

  5. Always loved to walk around publika and also fell in love with Big too. You didn’t mention about their partings, they have reserved lots for women with young ones, and families, and quick pickups, and 15 minutes waiting. I do hope people follow these though, else such a waste.
