The Hubs for the last 10 years has been complaining that out of our entire shoe cupboard that is 7 feet wide by 8 feet tall and one pair of shoes deep, he only has space for THREE pairs of shoes inside it – his sandals, his work shoes and his casual shoes. Even if he wanted to buy more shoes, there’d be no space for his shoes. Furthermore, we keep chucking his shoes out whenever we run out of space to the point he’s printed labels for his THREE prized shoe spots. He has made it clear to the entire family that NOBODY places their shoes in Daddy’s shoe parking lot. It’s Daddy’s!
Does anyone listen? Nahhhhh……
Another idionsyncracy he has with shoes is that they HAVE to be shoes made in England. For all his hatred of London and ridicule of my school at The Bartlett, he worships shoes made in England. Not Italy, not Spain. England.
And not only that, the shoes must be STITCHED from soles to insoles, from top to bottom so that feet are linked to ground per se. He is very passionate about his shoes. Read VERY FUSSY.
And well, made in England shoes are not easy to find in KL (I’m not sure why he doesn’t rate Clarks up to standard). He scoffs at Ferragamo and Gucci because those are fashion shoes to him. He thinks you’re an idiot if you’re willing to pay RM2,000 for a pair of shoes that are glued together, even if with super glue. Don’t even dare come near MY Ferragamo or Gucci shoes! I’ll PAY for good design and comfort and mind you, my Ferragamo shoes have lasted 15 years and are still as good as gold/brand new. No kidding.
The Hubs was very excited when he learnt that he no longer needed to travel to England to buy Made in England shoes because P Lal Store imports them. So off we trotted to Jalan Gasing one Saturday morning on a men’s shoe mission.
We were overwhelmed with their choice of Made in England shoes and didn’t know where to start! T2 decided that she was going to choose Daddy’s shoes for him. If Daddy was going to let anyone decide on his shoes, it’d be T2 – that super spoilt, nightmare of a monster precious little girl of ours.
He ended up with a pair of Loakes for just under a thousand, something of far superior quality than a pair of men’s Ferragamo shoes, he claims, yet cheaper. He used to have a pair of Kurt Geiger shoes that I bought him when we were in London and he said they were rubbish. Kurt Geiger = Clarks. Kurt Geiger would be so offended.
Anyway, sitting bored for an hour whilst he tried on various STITCHED shoes, I noticed that the timber on the floor had plants in them. And when I look much closer………….
I realised that they were fake plants printed on fake timber floor tiles. How ingenious! They really looked so real!
In order to pull off this look though, don’t you think it’d be better in an outdoor setting???
