Every year, we used to book ourselves into a hotel (with discounts, of course……sometimes free of charge *grins*) to watch the New Year’s Eve fireworks. Then one year, fireworks was banned and we booked the hotel for nothing. Since then, we decided that since the Government was so fickled, we would stop doing the hotel stint and just do what come may.
Near my home lies the steepest hill in all of KL where a spectacular view of the twin towers is available. One year, we brought T1 there to watch the fireworks from atop the hill. Every year, that hill is packed with New Year’s Eve revelers waiting impatiently for the firework display to begin. If you’re there by 10.30pm, you’re already too late. Many bring their own portable fans and chairs to have their own midnight picnic out on the road.
Last year, we were invited by some friends to have a quiet dinner at their place, then watch the fireworks from a secret location. It was perfect. Rather than join the mad crowd and traffic into town to force ourselves against crazy, drunk Malaysians, we had a lovely home cooked dinner with our friends after which the kids had fun playing with fire sparklies and pop-pops, and when it was almost time, we traveled to our secret undiscovered yet destination to watch the fireworks.

What about you? What do you normally do for New Year’s Eve? We haven’t thought about New Year’s Eve for this year yet but I know that we’re planning to bake tons of gingerbread teddy bears and gingerbread men (and women, and whatever else shape we have for that matter; we have tons thanks to T1’s high profile contacts *joke*) this Christmas!

Pre-kids, we used to book a serviced apartment and drink ourselves silly. Post-kids, we always had a quiet dinner, tucked the kids in and then shared some wine or champagne. Usually, we are asleep by 11pm :O
We used to watch the fireworks at KLCC and stay over Renaissance, pre Amber days. We did that for 6 yrs, except for the year tsunami hit. Now,we’ve toned down, last year, we countdown to fireworks near our home,, an amazing spot I never knew off, by 11.45pm, you’ll see everyone walking to the spot, most in their pyjamas to countdown, 1 Malaysia style.
and.. NYE is by b’day !!!
seems everyone had a life before kids. lol! those were the days…these days are spent celebrating rye li’s bday and then off to bed early while we can hear fireworks outside our place. we can see the fireworks from the curve area from our place – of course at a very far distance but better than none. i hope to celebrate the countdown with rye li (if she’ll have us) at nightclubs one day. 😀
