Mommy steps back into fitness

Today, I attended an amazing world music dance class at Caterpillar Cafe which I can safely say is the most exhausting workout I’ve EVER had. The class lasted an hour and five minutes but felt more like five hours. It started with a 15 minute aerobic warm-up although I can’t see why they’d call it a warm-up because it felt like the hundred meter sprint back and forth. Then we did some stretching (my favourite part) followed by the mish-mash of dances around the world which included the Indian Banggara Dance, Arabic Belly Dance, Country Folk Dance, Hip-Hop Modern Dance and 70’s Disco Dance.

It was super fun but Oh. My. God. I could feel the lactic acid flowing out of my every orifice. I kid you not. I’m surprised they didn’t have to call the ambulance on me.

The other moms who participated had super svelte athletic bodies and wore the tightest, skimpiest workout apparel. They had obviously been coming for awhile as they moved to the grooves with such finesse and there I was just trying to keep up, huffing and panting, in saggy, baggy track bottoms. Needless to say, they did not speak to me as I was an outcast. I mean, who wants to associate themselves with a plebeian, right? Especially if they were right up there with perfect bodies and shelves of Gucci handbags. Gosh, the kinds of pressures Moms have today is way above my head.

After the class, I was famished and ordered some pancakes. When the pancakes came out, those sexy slim Moms (including a local celebrity)…….their eyes………followed the gaze of the pancakes like they were fresh, black worms. At first, I thought they were going to order the same but they looked at me like the plague. And suddenly I felt like a disgusting glutton.

Now I know how they stay so slim. They don’t eat! Their conversations immediately turned to food and diet and one claimed she ate dinner at 5pm latest. Then another picked her handphone up and warned the other side that her husband was not to know about this. I wondered what this was. And guess what? Her husband just happens to be an ex-boyfriend of mine when I was 12 years old, except she didn’t know it.

So that was my morning. How was your?
