Mommy and Me, All to Myself….

Ever since I was pregnant with T2, my world had been a cloud of vomiting, then babies and nappies and poo and breasts and milk and nursing tops and nursing bras and baby carriers and sleepless nights. I hadn’t paid Tee any attention at all and the poor girl had to grow up at super speed over night.

I remember the days when I would lie in bed all day and spend the rest of the day by the toilet bowl puking my guts out, not having the energy to even prepare proper meals for Tee, nor pick her up from school let alone speak to her, apart from the occasional “Please go and play your toys! Mommy is sick!”

The girl didn’t give me any trouble. She played all alone and in that one year, learned how to pour her own water, go to the washroom entirely by herself (even to poo!), bathed herself and was taught how to raid the fridge. She did an amazing job for all of which I am so proud of her. She only ever came to me when she was tremendously hungry.

Fast forward two years later after a difficult pregnancy and a hmmm……yes, I would consider T2 a difficult baby (purely judging by Tee’s standards as a baby, as T2 is actually very good compared to the rest of the babies in general, just worse than Tee), Tee finally decided to voice out her feelings one day.

This was when I’d taken her out alone to the shops quickly to get some lunch whilst I left the little monster with the Hubs.

“Mama? I wish I could have you to myself alone sometimes, just like this. See how much fun it is? You are always busy with T2, T2, T2……everyday T2, T2, T2…..how I wish that sometimes, when you’ve finished feeding T2 or putting her to sleep, you could be with me alone. No T2.”

That totally blew me off. She was so right. Where did Tee fit in into my extremely busy schedule with a baby?

And at that very moment, I pledged to my elder daughter that from here on, I would spend at least half a day, if not the entire day, with her doing whatever she wants. If she wanted to go out, we’ll go out. Just Mommy and her. If she wanted to stay home, we’ll do that too and we’ll chase Daddy and T2 out. Or if she wanted them to stay, so be it. If she wanted to watch a movie, let’s do it. If she wanted to go to the fish spa, OK! If she wanted to visit friends, no problem.

So we started our Mommy and Me without T2 time a couple of weekends ago by going to the park and as usual, Tee wanted to bring the whole shebang of paints and art blocks to the park and wanted me to sit with her to paint. How inconvenient!!!

But I did it. For the love that I have for her, I packed that heavy basket of art supplies, that bulky art block, bottles of water to wash up, another bag of snacks and more drinking water……and we set out.

She drew a ‘still life’ of the playground. Then added her own version to it with upside down benches and raining fruits, purple trees and birds wearing hats, walking fishes and a Union Jack helicopter pooping. We had so much fun.

And as much as I thought I would be bored out of my mind, I actually had a mighty great time. Boy, did I miss my little girl!
