This week, I was unfortunate enough to have had to be in a queue that lasted 1.5 hours with a hungry, cranky toddler. T2 and I, we were out and about since 9am and finally got home at 3pm and throughout that whole time, did not have breakfast nor lunch. I was just busy, busy, busy and all I had for her was a bun in the car – not that she complained at all. But following Mommy around was shit boring……

So the interesting thing during my long wait was eavesdropping on a conversation between a married man (of 2 wives) and a married woman, both strangers at the start and friends when they parted with each others phone numbers. Hmmm……They were both of the same race of upper middle class status. They started sizing each other up by firstly asking about the kids. Then the woman asked where the man lived. I don’t know why Malaysians like asking this question. It almost is as though she wanted to know how rich he was. Then he just HAD to say Bukit Persekutuan (which is the Tan & Tan residential at Federal Hill) but when probed further, he admitted that he didn’t actually live there because he thought it was a waste (being so nice and posh) and lived in Bandar Utama but had another house in Taman Tun blablablabla…..because one house is for Wife #1 and the other for Wife #2. He then qualified that with 7 kids, they wouldn’t have fit into the home at Bukit Persekutuan. Then of course, the married woman had to ask if he owned a house-house there or an apartment unit, so he had to admit that it was just an apartment unit. But do you see where I am coming from?

Did he HAVE to say Bukit Persekutuan in the first place if he didn’t even LIVE there? Why did HE have to show off? Why couldn’t he just have said he lived in Bandar Utama? What’s wrong with living in Bandar Utama?? Malaysians, especially a certain category of Malaysians, are just so weird. It’s all about status and who has money. WTF!!!??? Who frigging cares if your father is a Datuk or if you have 20 million? There is another man who loves boasting how he’d just lost 48 million in some Telco deal blablablabla……I really cannot stand people like that. Just go back to your roots and ask yourself where you came from, please.
