One Saturday, T1 and I attended an event hosted by Kleenex entitled The Power of Play. I am usually not one to attend events and parties as much as possible because I’d much rather spend my time finishing up the chores and whatever else I have to do that is high on the priority list but because the event theme was entitled The Power of Play, and if you knew me, you would know how strong I am in advocating play in children, so we went. But only after confirming with T1 that she’d like to attend it too. I cannot stress enough how important play is for children under the age of 10, it’s the BEST way they learn, but most Asian parents still pressure their kids to perform academically.

*big sigh*

Anyway, the event was a first for me and I wasn’t sure what to expect but here are my thoughts:-

1. The emcee was cute!!! Heh. I thought he was an employee of Kimberly Clark but nay, he is a celebrity. An old Mixed FM dude so I hear. I’m not sure if it was his looks or his accent that I was attracted to more. Perhaps I should have married a Brit just for the accent, such a turn on. Whoops, I hope his wife doesn’t read this but if anything, she should be proud. So yeah, you know where my priorities really are. If you google KLEENEX POWER OF PLAY, you’d have the low-down of the entire event from front to back so I shan’t bore you with such.

2. I really liked the paediatrician, Dr Yong Junina Fadzil. She was so down-to-Earth and heart-warming. Very sincere.

3. I liked that it was a small enough event that it was controllable. And I got to meet some fantastic people, such as Mommy Lyna, my fellow blog Mom at MamaBabyWorld, who has 2 boys and another on the way, one of whom suffers from Amniotic Band Syndrome (he was born without a foot) but he is the happiest, most inspiring 2 year old on the block. He can do a mean kick with a foot ball! I also met an extremely special Mom, one whom obviously God chose to take care of Baby Samantha, whom I had the honour of looking into her baby eyes. She is precious. And I’m sure her Mommy, Daddy and kor-kor Jonathan take really good care of her as she suffers from Mitochondrial Disease and needs to wear a tube through her nose. My heart bled silently when Julie said Baby Samantha might not make it to adulthood but with prayer, miracles are possible! I met Mommy of Darren and Isabel, and Darren, who just loved taking photos! He took lots of photos of us! A Michael Adams in the making……And last but not least, I finally met Mommibee, whom I’ve been in touch with for several years now but never met since she’s from Sydney and well, we’ve never been to Sydney. The little Nottibee got along famously with my T1, it turns out she’s quite the chatterbox herself! I would have liked to have met more people but next time, y’all!!

4. I thought the organisers did a great job overall. I was weary that they were leading kids out for entertainment whilst parents stayed in a room for the presentations and felt that more detailed information be given to parents before leading the kids out. I’m anal that way. They said they had minders to take care of the kids but how many minders exactly? There were a lot of kids! I just needed more reassurance because well, I’ve been involved in a kidnap case before and I know how real these things are. Entertainment-wise, it was OK. Do I have high standards? Absolutely, no point compromising. The British drama expert they hired to draw the kids attention has an impressive resume but I’ve seen better performances from drama experts in KL. Well, people have off-days. She was very good, just not incredible. Know what I mean? Again, I apologise for harsh criticism, I am from the Bartlett. I thought Kimberly-Clark did good by organising this event so kudos to their MD. Very clever.

5. I’m completely sold by their latest product, Kleenex wet-wipes. It is thick (good quality), non-soapy, non-sticky, non-alcoholic wipes that sanitises your children’s hands and removes signs of even H1N1 germs. So they claim. T1 loves them above all other wipes and so do I, except that they don’t come cheap. They’re about thirty cents per pop as compared to seven cents each for some other brands. Nevertheless, they’ve made it into our diaper bags. We have various wipes in our diaper bag now. One for cleaning grubby public toilet seats (yuck! and even then, we triple line them first!), one for hands (Go Kleenex!), one for baby’s precious bottom and one for cleaning public high chairs and tables. I really should invest in some wet wipe shares. If you have not tried Kleenex wet wipes, you MUST. They’re a bit more expensive, but they are really worth it. TRY IT, TRY IT, TRY IT.
