Ipoh Old Town in Lucky Garden, Bangsar

Ipoh Old Town in Lucky Garden, Bangsar, is my father-in-law’s favourite restaurant in KL, not that he’s been to too many. It just so happened that we found one he liked near our home and he was hooked. We make a trip every time he’s down from Kelantan. This is not to be confused with the Old Town White Coffee outlets that are mushrooming (177 to date!) all over Malaysia. No…..as far as I know, there is only one IPOH OLD TOWN.

The food is OK, a tad too oily for my liking but generally, everyone’s happy. Most of their dishes are pretty delicious, just too oily for my liking. I’m not a big fan of oil.

You can also order and get your food delivered to your doorstep if you lived near enough. Prices are average, a bowl of pure fish balls is about RM5.60 (if my memory is on track).

  1. True, Old Town White Coffee sucks big time. This Ipoh Old Town has a much healthier menu and better service.

  2. I used to like the food in Ipoh Old Town but the quality has seriously deteriorated. My family and I dined there last month. The fish was wayyy overcooked, fried rice was tasteless and the other dishes did not fare much better. On top of that, the lady boss was busy promoting her MLM skincare Nucerity much to the annoyance of the other diners! Very disappointing.

  3. Was super disappointed with the service today. I had ordered the Honey Glazed Pork Ribs but was surprised that the pork had a strong smell and the taste didn’t quite measure up. With the type of sauce that was used, you would think all the bad smell and taste would be masked by the rich thick sauce. Unfortunately, that wasn’t true at all. I reckon the smell and taste would have been worse if not for the Honey Glaze.

Anyways I called the Aunty to the table, and all she could say was “that’s the smell of pork, we don’t keep our pork, we buy fresh and cook it.” To my utter dismay, she didn’t even offer to change it to something else.

I’ve eaten the dish before, a year back, and was very happy with the dish, so I know what it should taste like, and it certainly wasn’t the same as the dish today.

I didn’t eat it, but paid for it anyways, but I never want to eat there again.
