Lessons my Mom taught me – Part 20 of 23

The more you learn, the more you realise how little you actually know…

Despite all I have experienced and studied, I know that I only know 1% of this world, our Universe, and of humans and other living things as we continue to evolve.

My Mom was always sensitive to unnatural occurrences ever since I was a kid. She would ‘see’ shadows, ‘hear’ things or suddenly insist we couldn’t leave the house today. I thought it was strange but did not think too much about it.

As I got older, the stories got stranger. Black birds following her. The entire kitchen floor cracking open. Black liquid seeping from her body. I listened, half-skeptical. Honestly, most of it went in one ear and out the other. I did not know what to think.

She sought healers and religious figures from every faith, and eventually becoming a regular client of a medicine man from Jakarta. He believed she’d been cursed under powerful black magic and the rest confirmed it. The Priest would say, “This is not cancer…”

After 13 years of fighting cancer, in desperation, we called in healers from Indonesia for one final attempt. Their mission was to negotiate with the spirit tormenting my Mom and to release her from her pain.

I came as an observer, ever so curious. I had heard about her experiences with the other realms but never experienced them myself.

That night, the healers rubbed her toes with peppercorns and began their chanting prayers. Mom lay motionless and silent on the floor, all 30 kg of skin and bones.

Suddenly, her upper body shot up, sitting upright at a sharp 90 degrees. Her head turned toward me with eyes that were not hers; cold, dark, and full of rage. They were eyes of evil death!!

Mom, who could barely talk for a while now because her teeth were all destroyed by the cancer and her mouth filled with the cancer growth, SUDDENLY roared talking very loudly and very clearly. Furious!!

I felt chills up my spine but sprung the courage to ask the spirit that was inside Mom why she wanted to continue hurting Mom when she had already suffered so much.

The voice spoke loud, fluent English with a ton of violent swear words, vehemently shouted, “Because I’m going to kill her!!”

We pleaded. Negotiated and begged for mercy.

Eventually, the spirit left.

That night, I was too shaken to drive home to my own house. My whole body was trembling. I couldn’t believe what I had just experienced.

It reminded me of a mahjong game we were playing one night past 2am when I heard a heavy breath right by my ear.

I ignored it.

Ten minutes later, Mom asked, “Did anyone else just hear a man breathing?” The other players looked confused. Only she and I had heard it.

Soon after the encounter with the healers and the spirit that literally shouted she was going to kill my mother, my mom passed away.

Today, I no longer question the existence of spirits, energies, or the afterlife, because I have not only seen it with my own eyes but have now had first hand experience of this myself.

I believe.
