With Imperfections – Starting Your Life Towards Millionare-dom

At some point in our lives, we all reach a stage where we are comfortable in our own skin, imperfections and all, and are totally happy about it. I read recently a saying about how in our 20s, we are all about impressing the world and learning how to get about. We are extremely conscious with our words and actions and live to impress. Then in our 30s, we have built some resilience in what others think about us and have grown a little self esteem to sustain ourselves. After our 40s however, some take longer of course, we start realising that actually, nobody give a rat’s ass about us and we might as well have gone all out in achieving our goals instead of worrying about offending anybody. I am certainly in that ‘older’ stage of life although I caught on pretty early so had extra years to leverage. If you are a Tan Sri, SO WHAT. If you are a royal, SO WHAT. If you are a genius, SO WHAT. If you are a billionaire, SO WHAT. What matters is what is within.

If you’re interested in being wealthy however, then this is what you should be doing regardless of what anyone says or thinks about you. Because hey, do you want to make decisions for your life or for others?

The great news is that if you are in your 20s, you are LUCKY! I know I have even 18 year old readers as they have approached me in public before, bless you. Obviously, if you are reading this in your 20s, it means you have more time to do the right thing where many have failed. Save 20% of your income every single month. If you can save more, all the better but make sure that at least 20% goes into savings. Do not have a credit card debt. If you need to use it, make sure you pay it off immediately otherwise, don’t use it at all. If you cannot afford it, DON’T get it. Credit cards are the worst spinners of doom.

Once you have a nice little pot of savings when you hit your 30s, you can start diversifying your income streams. Instead of partying and wasting away watching TV, why not think about how you could earn some other streams of income apart from your full time job? I wish I did that when I was in my 30s but unfortunately, I was a late bloomer and did not read online then so really had no guidance whatsoever.

If you are unable to earn some side streams of income, consider getting a new, better paid job. With bigger earnings, you will be able to increase your monthly savings.

One very important TALK to have in your 30s is the one you must have with your partner whom you will get married to. Never get married before this discussion is had because the worse of marriages end due to money disagreements. Before I got married, I made it known upfront that I was high maintenance and even my late mom told my now amazing hubs, that once sold, there was not a return policy. I can assure you, I am still high maintenance but he has no regrets!

A little point to note, if you do NOT have this money conversation BEFORE you get married, divorce proceedings will cost A LOT of money. So please, talk about your money goals before you get married. Get over your I don’t want him to think I only love him for his money concept. When everything is clear and understood, everything becomes easy. Communication lines must be sincere and open always between husband and wife.

When in your 40s, keep living within your budget and slowly increase your income as you go along. ONLY spend 30% of your income on big purchases.

Now you should have enough to start playing and investing your pool of funds. What will you invest it in to grow your money for your kids education? Property? Stocks? Business? Financial Investments?

Start with being OKAY to be authentically you first.

And always remember, your health comes first.
