Hyatt Regency Kuantan

Over Raya this year, we travelled to the Hyatt Regency Kuantan to have a small beach holiday to get away from the memory of losing my Mom. We were always with her during Raya and Christmas so from here on, every Raya and Christmas, we will go on holiday!!! Although having said that, I might just do an open house next year for Raya.

Before our journey to the Hyatt Regency Kuantan which was the best hotel in Kuantan that I could find, we visited Mom’s grave as it is what most Muslims do on Raya if I am not mistaken and then proceeded to our quick and easy drive there. The roads have improved so much since our last drive on the East Coast of Malaysia before the kids came along so if you do want a holiday on the East Coast, Kuantan is an option if you do not wish to drive all the way up to Terengganu or Kota Bharu.

The Hotel room was OK, not what I would have expected for paying RM1,000 per night for. We had a Sea View Room but it turned out that my Sea View was blocked by the tall coconut trees so they should have rightfully called it a Sea View in the Background of Coconut Trees View.

Hyatt Regency Kuantan, this is what my little one did the moment she entered the room. Most kids do this. Sometimes even the adults!!! So best to get great beds or you will be needing an upgrade again within the next 2 years.

The next thing we did was of course to go hunt the hotel for some food!!! One does get hungry after a 3 hour drive!!! Because we had paid so much for the hotel room, we had access to the Club Lounge for free food. Not bad.

Food at the Hyatt Regency Kuantan is not bad but they are way too pricey. It was Raya and I was dying to have some lemang and rendang but the buffet dinner was something ridiculous like RM99 each. All I wanted from the entire buffet was the lemang and the rendang but they wouldn’t oblige and there was no ala carte menu. I refused to pay RM99 x 4 just to satisfy my rendang and lemang cravings so we gave it a pass and drove out in search for rendang and lemang instead.

I got out the trusty Kuantan map from the Hyatt Regency Kuantan and off we set for the treasure hunt of rendang and lemang but after a whole hour driving round and round Kuantan, there was none!!! ZERO!!!! Everyone had gone home to celebrate Raya already and nobody was selling any rendang and lemang!!! I was crushed!!!! We had no choice but to head back to the hotel and ordered some rendang…….craving satisfied. The Hubs was ever so obliging, love him to bits. From the urgency, you’d have thought I was pregnant.

To top off my craving for rendang and lemang, they had this gorgeous, gorgeous pandan sponge cake with some coconut shavings which was so damn good!!! I loved it so much I think I had about 10 slices. Yes, really. Have you seen my size lately?

The next morning, I woke up with bug bites all over my neck and back. What the hell???????? They were so itchy and I was sure it was the bed!!!! Luckily we brought along some Izumio as we do on ALL our holidays now since Europe because they are such a blessing in any emergency, so Izumio calmed the itch for me and the next days thereafter I had no more new bites, thank God! It felt so creepy though knowing that the room wasn’t entirely super clean if you know what I mean. I hate dirty, musky hotel rooms and for RM1,000 per night, I really expected more. I could pay the same or less for the KL Hilton but just because the Hyatt Regency Kuantan knows that they are the only decent hotel out there, they’ve jacked up the prices. RM99 for a simple buffet dinner in Kuantan?

The kids went all out in the sun on Day One and swam for about 8 hours I kid you not.

IMG_7714

I left them to their Dad who of course didn’t feel the urgency to regularly put sunblock for them both so within that very day, both kids were seriously toast. I mean, look at T1!!!!! She was RED like a lobster!!!! And the next day after, she started peeling very badly and was itching everywhere!!!! Thankfully again for Izumio because it helped soothe the pain and itch and I applied it regularly on her skin to heal faster. Izumio is great for burn victims.

IMG_7712

They were so into swimming that they were not interested in leaving the hotel at all for meals *cries* so we settled for paying hotel prices for every single meal whilst in Kuantan. Every day they had pizza for lunch. *yawn*

IMG_7719

The pool wasn’t too busy which was nice. The kids could swim back and forth without bumping or bothering anyone else.

IMG_7653

As for me, on Day One I actually went down to the pool to read my book but by the second day, I was at the spa and by the third day I was in the nice air-conditioned hotel room. Hahahahaha. Seriously, I am too old for the sun. Can’t afford more solar damage to my skin and hair anymore. Huhuhu.

IMG_7646

The spa experience was OK. I would rate the massage a 7 out of 10 but facilities were old.

IMG_7699

I just had to have the full works of course so a facial was in hand and by the time I got out of the spa, I was smelling like a cucumber dipped in almond oil. It felt good though but oh so expensive……..

IMG_7707

The kids had fun though and wished they could have stayed longer than 4 nights but unfortunately the Hubs had to go back to work so it’s back to the grind!!! We kept telling them, if Daddy doesn’t work, you cannot even come to such holidays!!! That usually shuts them up from all the moaning…..such lucky kids. On one of the days, we had a friend come visit us at the hotel to play so the girls had even more fun at the beach.

So if you’re planning to visit the East Coast of Kuantan, do give the Hyatt Regency Kuantan a go AFTER they have completed their renovations next September though by Malaysian standard, construction timetables are usually delayed so please check first before you head off. I am very sure it will be superb after the renovation or they would get a super bad ass review from me next!
