How you treat others is a reflection of yourself
Lessons my Mom taught me – Part 4 of 23
Treat everyone THE SAME.
From the Road Sweeper to the Prime Minister
A ton of people brown nose people who have money or status, and whatever else turns them on for gain…. yet have no time to those who have nothing to offer.
Mom was best friends with the cleaners, waitresses and service staff, just as much as she was with royalty, elite socialites and corporate big wigs.
We’re not referring to the fake kiss and hello friendships. This tall woman had a few tight bonds for sure but she treated everyone like they were on First Class I kid you not.
She drilled this into us, firstly leading by example, and then with her matriarchal orders. Yup. She was a bossy one. It certainly got passed down well.
At her stockbroking office, she had a relationship with the tea lady, buying gifts, exchanging stories. She knew the mail man, the runners, the security guards, by name; and also had private inner circle dinners with some heads of corporate GLCs, equity firms and conglomerates. RSGC made that easy.
Anyone who looks big on the outside, may not BE on the inside; and anyone who looks small on the outside, could be VERY big on the inside….
Find the heart, she’d repeat.
Some of the wisest, kindest, most generous people I have ever known, were ones SOCIETY barely noticed.
This year, my daughter in America, shared that the kindest, nicest, loveliest person she’d ever met in her life, was someone she got to know there, a Petronas scholar from the village whose parents still lived in a house where the toilet was outside at a distance.
My heart sang with pride.
When she shared it so passionately, I teared ….. if anyone ever shared that about me, I would die so happy. #goals
Mom taught me to see the hearts of people.
Not their makeup, skins or wallets.
How we treat people who can do nothing for us says EVERYTHING about who we really are.
Really.
