How will I achieve that exactly?

Happy Couple

Lessons my Mom taught me – Part 1 of 23

I really love my Mom ??

I handed her a report card to sign when I came home from school one day and she was so excited that I was 3rd in class.

St Mary’s School Standard One.

I didn’t even know what the fuss was but she said that for next year, if I was 1st in class, she’d get me a Sindy Doll.

My first ever doll was a Sindy Doll.

Throughout the years, Mom never, EVER chased me nor nagged at me to study.

That was also the first and last time she ever suggested to strive for first place.

Thereafter, it was always, “Just do your best.”

And because she never paid any attention to my report cards, I too don’t pay any attention to any of my kids’ report cards.

Life is so much more than report cards.

I don’t even attend any of my kids’ parent teacher meetings because I feel I know my kids so much more than the teachers.

As long as they are genuinely happy, they will be very successful.

But yes, just do your best…..

Well, of course I didn’t at school because I got distracted in between without the security of a stable home.

No Expectations

Yet Mom never set any expectations on me and never made me feel less than worthy had I not achieved any of those good grades.

My dad however was always comparing us kids to the cousins. It was a sure way to make us feel ‘not enough’. So and so did this. What happened to you?

Totally not blaming him because this is a common habit of parents of that era, playing the comparison game.

JUST DO YOUR BEST was great advice because we owe it to ourselves to do our very best.

Why in the world would we cheat ourselves to do any less than our best?

This is not a comparison game though.

It is not about doing your best so you can be one up on the next person. No. No. No.

It is doing your best so you grow honour and dignity that you gave it your best, and to keep improving upon yourself each time.

Too many parents put priorities in the wrong places but I am so glad my late Mom set the bar for me as JUST DO YOUR BEST.

I now practise JUST DO YOUR BEST as a lifestyle standard and go ALL IN to support my clients in everything that they do and in everything else that I do.

Likewise, I tell my kids; JUST DO YOUR BEST ??
