Book one or two friends to come along to do groceries together. Take turns shopping by dumping up to three kids in a supermarket trolley. One mom pushes kids and entertains them whilst the other mom shops. When finished, switch. That way, you contain the kids and not have to worry about them grabbing all sorts of unwanted goodies into your grocery trolley. Have some entertainment ready because there will come a point when the ring leader will say she wants to COME OUT NOW. Creativity will keep them in.

Have tiny pieces of scrunched up paper (smaller than marbles) in your handbag and bring them out at emergencies. Borrow a few supermarket plastic containers for them to pour their ‘food’ into and play. When they get bored of that, go somewhere where you can get some ice and get a cube of ice for each kid. Finally, if all else fails, bribe them. Show them what they can get if they stayed INSIDE the trolley.

If that fails too, hire someone else to do your shopping.
