The plan this year was for T1 to take a year out and T2 to go back to school as per normal and since T1 is a smart, independent girl; she will just do whatever the hell she wants PROVIDED she gets in some studying in the mornings. This means she needs to do some Math, English and Science, do something productive. As for the afternoons, she could read, do whatever projects she wants whether it be growing crystals (Thank you, Aunty Paik Ling. We’re growing a crystal farm here. Not sure if it has super powers like Kryptonite but I sure hope so!) or riding a bicycle or just simply playing. We do not have Astro so technically there is no option for TV but she does have access to the computers or iPad for research if she wants. I have also hired tutors for her for 4 languages which is costing me an arm and a leg, almost her school fees for International School, I kid you not!!! Fuck me!!!
There’s just no win. Go to school, money comes out. Don’t go to school, money also comes out.
$”*&£&%$”@
To make matters worse, T2 has decided that there is no way she is going to school despite the RM X,000 that has already been paid for the first semester. Ouch. The Hubs is seriously on my case about this and I am at a lost on what to do. He says he could have bought 4 iPads with that money. We are always wasting money. Yada yada yada……So should I force her to go with lots of tears or allow her to irritate me at home? Hmm.
I think that you need to be really disciplined if you wanted to homeschool. If your child was not a self-motivated child and if you were not available to chase him, AND if you don’t mind them not doing any Math or anything else and just accept and trust that they will learn as they go along, then it will be a challenge. It has only been week 2 but I am already thinking when I can send her back to school so T2 can also go back to school.
Certainly if you, the Mother, was available to coach them in their learning, homeschool cannot beat school-school in many areas; another option would be to hire private tutors to coach (very expensive) or send them to a homeschool centre (which to me defeats the entire purpose of homeschooling! it is just another school choice, perhaps a different kind of school, but it is still school).
So. Should I quit my job to coach my kids???
