Happy Birthday, Monyet!!!

Has it been 3 years since my relationship with this baby monkey began??? Time is rocketing on!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, T2!!!! Monyet is her nickname at home because she really is a monyet.

Where do I start? My precious little T2 is 2 years old today and as far as child raising is concerned, we have done completely different things with the two girls. Well, you learn from experience, don’t you?

For starters, T1 had everything she ever wanted and is still getting everything she wants from her grandparents. But no more from us. T2 does not know how to demand for material goods yet, but she has received nothing in terms of her first 2 years of life. She has SO MUCH leftovers that we’ve even been selling and giving away all the leftovers because seriously, a child does not need that many toys.

See? We even celebrated her 2nd birthday humbly with just family and no presents. She had a birthday cake though, only because her mother and sister needed an excuse to eat cake! T1 had big birthday parties every year, T2 has had none so far. I reckon we’ll hold her a small party on her third, when she can truly appreciate having some friends round to play with.

Right now, she’s more than happy just to play with her sister! Seriously, the two of them get along really, really well. Despite being half her height, T2 has the brain capacity to engage well with her sister and T1 is ever so patient and loving with her younger sister. It is every mother’s dream that your children stick up for each other, it certainly is mine.

Despite being so tiny and only 2, T2 is able to join in older children games happily, and thankfully, they are also happy to include her! So together they played Ring-A-Ring-A-Roses at the Robson Heights Restaurant and they all fell down onto the dirty floor! T2 really knows how to play all these older children games that her Che-Che teaches her and is so eager to follow her Che-Che in whatever she does.

T2 is an avid reader. She loves books and thanks to T1, as a shining example, T2 now gets her own books and either looks at the pictures quietly herself or asks one of us to read the book to her. She doesn’t play with too much toys, mostly blocks. She likes building towers and bridges and knocking them over. She likes playing with bears and dolls and getting them dressed. She likes cleaning the house with rags and mopping and hoovering the floor with her household toys. She even irons her dolls clothes. Yes, she likes doing whatever Mommy does. Even working on her little computer. She LOVES watching TV. It is practically a RITUAL that every morning when she drinks her morning milk that she HAS to have that ugly purple dinosaur on TV. She can watch him all day, although she wouldn’t be watching the TV per se, she just likes having the noise on and would watch as and when. However, I have since learnt that she can live WITHOUT Barney after we realised how much electricity our big TV was sucking up from being over-Barneyed out. So last week, T2 had NO Barney all day and she was fine. She did ask for it but I said no, and she was fine – just went along and did other things. Another thing she likes doing is drawing…….it must be in the genes because her Che-Che loves drawing too.

Food-wise *sigh*. NOTHING has changed. We are still trying to wean her OFF the boob and today, on her 2nd birthday, it’s the first day again of her not having the boob at all. The last time was when Mommy went to Bangkok for 3 days, remember? She was fine. She moaned a little but distraction did the trick. She almost accepted that Mommy would give her lots of cuddles and kisses but no boob. She is still not eating but hopefully when weaned off the boob, her appetite would increase. She is completely fussy when it comes to food and only eats plain, tasteless food – white rice, plain pasta, plain pau, plain bread, plain egg, plain tofu, plain oatmeal. It’s so bland but that’s exactly how she likes it. She will not eat anything else. The moment you put some flavour into it, she rejects it. She does not eat fruit nor vegetables.  I’ve even blended vegetables and force syringed it into her mouth!!! All I’m doing is praying right now because her diet doesn’t help with her constipation problems. Sometimes, she will eat oatmeal cookies and that’s one tiny way of getting some fibre into her wee body. Nevertheless, despite her lack of food intake, she is as bright as a lark so I’m assuming the breast milk is doing her some good! Yet, we’re going to stop *sob* but we’re hoping she WILL start eating proper food once it stops…….

Please God, just get my baby to start eating healthy. I love her and want her to grow!

Despite attending kiddy classes for 2 semesters, T2 has not shown an appreciation for other toddlers. She always seems aloof and hardly participates in group play and prefers to always do her own thing or just stand in the corner to watch and observe the rest. She will play and be happy if her Che-Che is in the class but if not, prefers to play herself than interact with any of the other kids. Perhaps she is still too young. She likes babies though! She always likes touching babies! Just no interest in kids her age. She really acts like the snob. Maybe she just has her father’s genes in that area……

Her speech is really cute and we love communicating with her. She doesn’t talk near half as well when T1 was her age but she can speak words (not sentences) and is able to communicate what she wants. Oh, her cuteness is just so adorable that I want to bottle it up forever!

Because we don’t have so much time to spend teaching her and talking to her, she is a lot more independent than T1. She learns everything herself and it is interesting to note then, that despite no teaching, the child still learns! So really, no teaching is required, really. In fact, she seems to be learning a lot without us teaching so perhaps this is the way to go. Stop spoon-feeding a kid with new things and she will figure the world out herself. It is certainly what we’re experiencing with T2. Thus, we will send T2 to no enrichment classes and see where she ends up.

Oh, look! T2 ended up with glasses…..

Only kidding. The bugger was bored when I visited the optician and just had to try one of the frames on. My little monkey. She is always full of tricks like her sister, she learns it all from her sister, but I love her so much still.

Happy Birthday, our little Monyet! You are TWO YEARS OLD!!! NO. MORE. BOOB!!!!
