My Dearest Tee,

It seems only yesterday that you came into this world and now you already have a baby sister. Just look at you! This year we reviewed your old videos to see how cute you were when you were 1 year old, 2 years old, 3 years old and 4. Unfortunately, your birthday this year was not captured through a fault of our old video camera *real bummer* so we’re going to have to capture another occasion once we’ve sorted out the camera. Another excuse for a party, yes!

You are now 17 kilos and 105cm tall, still the shortest in class wherever you go and always ask why you are the shortest in class as your friends always tease you. You also ask me why you have the fattest thighs??!! I was real pissed that you even thought like that!

Nevertheless, I reassured you that it is not the size of you that is important but your heart although your Daddy puts a lot of stress on your brain. I don’t see you having any problems in the brain department but I am working to soften that heart of yours to be more compassionate.

Currently, you have a habit of ditching some of your friends. Just because you are so popular in school and everywhere else, it doesn’t mean that you only play with whom you like. Sometimes, you need to be a little tactful and play with everyone. Mommy is always reminding you not to hurt other children’s feelings, which you have a habit of doing but when the same happens to you, then you come crying to Mommy. You need to learn that if you treat other people badly, the same could happen back to you.

You promised Mommy that after this years big party, we wouldn’t have anymore parties till you’re 12 years old but the day after your party, you were already planning your 6th birthday party!!! What’s up with that?! Then you rationalised that it will only be a small party with 3 other friends (whom you already named) and you wanted to have it at another expensive location to which I said a flat no.

This year, you’ve had to grow up very fast since Mommy was so sick during pregnancy and I must say I am mighty proud of you for coping. I am sorry that I keep snapping at you sometimes but it is because Mommy is super duper tired all the time. I do make an effort to play with you whenever I can, right? Thank you for being such a great sport, a great helper at home and for being so understanding. You really have a sense of maturity beyond your years.

Next year, you go to big school and start getting homework. I hope you will love big school as much as you do now. Mommy is really worried about you at big school although the school seems to think you will do just fine. Let’s hope they are right.

You like playing make-believe, whether it be at the supermarket, restaurant, playing Mommy and Baby or princesses; you love doing workbooks, you love playing puzzle games (it makes you feel smart!) and you love building jigsaw puzzles. You also love building blocks and lego, anything that allows your imagination to run wild, like drawing, reading and writing…..oh, how you absolutely love to draw – anything and everything. You love performing and singing and dancing and playing the piano amongst all the other toy instruments that you have; you love offering solutions to any problems that we may have, you also offer unsolicited advise to our annoyance sometimes…….actually, to put it quite simply, you seem to love life. I hope it stays that way forever because it is so important to love life. You’ve done a great job thus far. Loving life.

Your favourite people in the world are Nana and your Uncle Ben because they will entertain you to no end. It is only because they do not live with you because believe me, no adult has the stamina nor the energy to keep up with your constant banter.

You are currently addicted to sugar but with Mommy’s help, you have agreed to watch your sugar intake in moderation. Mommy is proud of you that you agreed to this, and even agreed to say no to Nana. Let’s see how long you hold up. You have been extremely good with eating your vegetables because Mommy started you early at 9 months with a variety of vegetables, plainly steamed, sometimes with a little butter and now people are always impressed when they see you eating your vegetables. Well done!

You don’t have a favourite food per se or let’s just say, you love food just as your parents do so you eat almost everything depending on your mood. I love that about you. Although you are somewhat picky (like you hate peas and durian), generally, you are a good eater.

You just told me again last night that you wanted to cut your hair and I was so mad because you keep changing your mind and even Daddy has accepted that you are a woman – fickled. I put my foot down because I want you to learn how to finish what you start. You wanted to keep your hair long like a princess until you no longer needed hair clips so let’s just stick to the plan until that gets achieved. THEN, you can cut your hair.

You have the most extraordinary taste in clothes and I go through big struggles within myself each time whether or not to allow you out in the outfits that you put together. Sometimes you are so head strong that I just give up and make sure everyone knows that you chose the outfit yourself. Green striped long sleeved shirt, green striped skirt and green striped leggings……total overkill, sweetie. I know you want to stand out and seek attention but….

Your greatest weakness (or strength as some may see it) is the fact that you talk a lot. Too much. You need to learn how to listen more and talk less. Your strengths? We could be here all night.

I love that you are kind and thoughtful, hilarious, talented, silly, psychotic, honest, helpful, charming, smart………I don’t like your laziness and whinging habits but lucky for you, I know that usually happens when you are tired.

Since T2 is waking up now, I shall end this with a big Happy Birthday my dearest princess. I’m glad you loved your 5th Birthday Party and hope you will remember it for a long time to come! I want you to remember always that Mommy, Daddy and T2 love you so, so, soooooo, sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much and we always, always will. We love everything about you. EVERYTHING. May you always be happy as you have been so happy these last five years and we can’t wait till the day you have your own little five year old. Now wouldn’t that be something?!
