Handling EPF (KWSP)

Interestingly, many corporate secretaries charge or included in their fee, is their services to open up an account with EPF for you. However, I bravely took on this perceived challenge this week and was pleasantly surprised and PROUD of Malaysia, that it took me all of 7 minutes.

This is how it happened.

Rather than pay (since I’m one stingy Director), I called EPF to ask what was required to open an account. When I was told that all I needed was 3 documents, I asked her three times if she was absolutely sure because why then were people charging hundreds and sometimes thousands just to bring three documents to a Government office?

The Malay lady said, Oh, please! Don’t get anyone else to do it for you. It’s really simple. Just bring your documents and it will be settled immediately!

I was so skeptical.

Well, of course I had to fight traffic jams and parking problems at Jalan Raja Laut but I was determined, so brought baby and stroller and made a field day of it. We parked at the new CIMB building 100 meters down the road (which has a bitch of a car park maze but their friendly guards who helped me carry the stroller down stairs made up for it because surprise-surprise, we are such a disabled friendly nation!) and walked in the blazing sun to KWSP. I’ll tell you now that it certainly isn’t like pushing a stroller down Kensington Street!!! But we enjoyed it nevertheless.

As soon as I arrived at EPF, I got a number, waited 1 minute, got called to a counter, got served and was done in a total of 7 minutes. I timed it all as I was prepared to make news of it! But instead, they called my bluff. Go Malaysia!

So since everything happened so quick, I prolonged the service and asked for my own EPF details as well. Service was excellent. It really was. And after the 10 minutes of chit-chat, I brought baby up to the KWSP building food court (because I was frigging starving not having had breakfast by lunch time), and was so impressed to see a REALLY CLEAN food court!

Who’s in charge of EPF again? Well done for serving me well. Next stop – income tax department…..

  1. i did the same thing 2 months ago. but i was too lazy to walk across the road to that building and i chose one which has a carpark within its vicinity – PJ jln gasing branch. it was really fast, like you said, and the guy who served me was pretty hawt too!

  2. Wow, impressive! I’m surprised to hear this esp when so many people blog about Malaysian inefficiency.

I know how crazy Jalan Raja Laut can be and yup, pushing a stroller in Malaysia is definitely no “walk in the park” LOL

Hey, all the best to you with your little venture. I don’t mind the half-day work I do now and really hope that I can continue with it when we go home…
