Getting kids to help in the kitchen

Getting kids to help in the kitchen is a good idea. From the age of two, T1 has helped me in the kitchen and everywhere else. She loves peeling garlic and peeling/plucking vegetables.

Now that she’s a bit older, she’s finally been allowed to use the peeler and the grater. Despite thinking that she was going to waste my time and make an even bigger mess, she’s actually turned out quite handy in the kitchen. She actually saves time!

Peeling potatoes very, VERY carefully…….

Such patience and dedication, happy to do it too.

So, get your little ones cracking in the kitchen whether or not you have any help at home. Apart from building on their fine motor skills, it’s a good habit to start early. Just make sure they are safe! Getting kids to help in the kitchen will certainly save you some time.

Plus, they get an education.

Here’s how little kids can help in the kitchen:-

1. Peel garlic

2. Pluck tails off bean sprouts

3. Pluck strings off French Beans or Long Beans

4. Peel skin off mushrooms

5. Wash rice

6. Wash vegetables

7. Pluck green leafy vegetables

8. Mash potatoes or bananas

9. Stir cake mix

10. Make a bigger mess, or have booger ladened food – OOPS!!!

OK, seriously now. Getting kids to help in the kitchen has far more advantages than disadvantages. Take it from me. *wink-wink*

  1. Nice to have a little helper in the kitchen, provided we are not in a rush lar… haha.. I only let Vic use the butter knife right now, cannot trust her with the peeler yet, but will use T1 as a guide (when Vic is 7yo I will let her use).

Oh, and can let kids wipe table
