Freak accident

After returning from the wake the night before and sleeping at 2am only to be woken at 4am and then again at 6am, I must pat myself on the back for surviving yesterday, the 2nd of June.

After boobing T2 at 6am, I hopped onto the treadmill for half an hour and did my designated 2km walkrun, then started the day by getting dressed, and waking the baby up to meet some friends for breakfast. By 10am, I was yawning but we stayed on walking around ikea till I had to pick T1 up from school. After picking her up from school, I brought the girls for lunch, then took T1 to the dentist and got some fillings done. And by that time, I had survived a very tiring day with 2 kids out and about since 8am, yawning, yawning, yawning.

And then at 5pm, when we really should have been heading home for dinner, T1 begged and begged and begged if she could rollerblade, just for a little while. I said no, no, no. I was dog tired, yawning, yawning, yawning……but the girl is so persistent and I was just too tired to fight. So I passed her the RM22 and planted my bum on a comfy chair to put my cranky baby to sleep.

The skating rink was empty. It was only T1 and her friend, and 2 members of staff skating so I figured they were very safe and just left her to skate with her friend. Furthermore, I figured the members of staff were there, not to keep an eye on the little girls, but you know, they worked there…..so they knew what they were doing. I did see the guys doing their stunts, skating really fast at super speed, running on skates, doing spins and twirls and doing jumps with one leg etc and mentioned to my friend that these guys were a bad example to the girls, as the girls would only try following them and it was dangerous when they were just amateur skaters.

It was whilst T2 was on the boob when I heard a loud crash, and when I looked up, saw a mountain of the 2 men on top of each other and then I heard a loud scream and saw T1’s blue T-shirt below the 2 men. I freaked out not knowing what to do as T2 was stuck asleep on the boob and thankfully, my friend ran to the scene of the accident and brought her out of the rink, got some ice for her head. In the meantime, I had put T2 down in the stroller and ran to T1 to check if she was ok. She was conscious but looked kind of stoned, probably in shock, so they carried her down to the car (much faster than calling an ambulance) and I rushed her to the hospital. On the way out, the mall’s security guard informed me that just 2 weeks ago, a 14 year old boy had another freak accident and had to be ambulanced out because he was unconscious, so T1 being conscious was a good sign.

In the car, she had already passed out and I kept screaming at her to stay awake. T2 was of course, crying, because she was tired and hungry. Prior to arrival, I had already called the hospital to get them on standby to carry T1 out of the car because there was just no way I was going to be able to carry T1 and manage the baby as well. Thankfully, they obliged. She woke up when she was on the hospital bed and looked weak and listless but she was probably in shock and very tired and hungry too.

The Doctor checked her inside out and ordered a skull X-ray. Initially, she had complained of leg pain, there was a big bruise with red dots on her entire half left forehead near her eyes, basically a quarter of her face was bruised and it looked like the roller blade of the men had whacked her on the head. She couldn’t tell the Doctor what happened but she told me that she felt a push and fell and then incredible pain. Thus it sounded like the men had lost control and crashed into her or tripped over here.

After her 1st X-Ray, the Doctor saw something and ordered for more detailed X-Rays but did not want to subject her to a CT scan yet as they aren’t good for children unless in severe emergencies. In any case, any brain hemorrhaging would not show immediately. T2 was cranky, cranky, cranky and couldn’t even be carried and she kept wriggling and fussing and wriggling all over the place whilst I was trying to listen to the Doctor speak.

……To be cont’d
