As I browsed through Facebook tonight, and only because someone added me as a friend (whilst I have a 10 friend request still pending), I started wondering what it really meant to be a facebook friend. Do I become your friend if I was introduced to you last week? Do I become your friend if you added me as your friend even though I can’t stand your guts, but out of politeness…..? Do I become your friend because we have a mutual friend? Am I your friend because we used to play congkak together at the age of five but have never spoken since? What exactly defines your facebook friend?

Currently my facebook account is very inactive because I just don’t have the time but I do like it for it’s ability to stay in touch with friends, especially the old ones and the ones from abroad. But apart from that, I really don’t understand the fascination with facebook except that it is a time killer. And if you don’t use it wisely, it will kill you. Of course, it could also be a very useful application depending on your purpose. I used to spend hours playing word games on it. Now, Tee spends minutes playing jigsaw puzzles on it. It’s incredible. The creators of facebook are truly an amazing bunch.

So. I am deciding on the purpose of my facebook account. Is it a tool to show off how rich my friends are? Or so my other friends know that I am linked to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom? Is it a tool for me to leech onto my friend’s friends for personal gains? To show people how popular I am? I think many people get carried away with facebook *rolls eyeballs* and I certainly don’t want to be associated with ‘those’.

For now, should I start deleting my ‘friends’? Or should I just delete my facebook account altogether?

I know you can set privacy settings, but, too much effort, y’know??? Sometimes, I even think of deleting my entire blog 🙂
