When I was expecting Tee, I had a lot of time to do my research on what I needed, what I really, really, really needed and what I definitely did not need. Being pregnant without a job allowed you time to look into the finer details. Like whether my left nail was cut 2 millimetres shorter than my right nail. Or whether breast pump A had a suction twice as hard as breast pump B.
And then baby slings……..
Half the world’s Moms swear by them and another third prefer the baby carriers. I must’ve spoken to a hundred Moms before I made my decision to sling or not to sling.
My Swedish friend swore by Baby Bjorn because she said that 9 out of 10 Moms who have tried and tested all baby carriers out there concluded that the absolute best baby carrier was the Baby Bjorn, if you’d made your decision not to sling. It was the easiest carrier to shove your baby in and out. And it was also the safest. Unfortunately it cost close to RM400 new.
People say that baby carriers are not so good because they cause a strain on baby’s spines since pressure is exerted onto their fragile, still developing spines. But seriously, with such strict US and EU guidelines, the stuff wouldn’t be sold if it was really a problem. Just imagine the lawsuits that would come out of that!
Eventually, I got both and was lucky enough to be given both. For FREE. So I got to test both the carrier and the sling. When Tee was a younger baby, she didn’t like the sling, so I used the Baby Bjorn. But as she grew older, she grew out of the Baby Bjorn (at 6 months+) so I had to resort to the baby sling. Thankfully, she was OK with it and in fact grew to love it. Yes, lazy legs are always complaining that the legs can no longer walk. I personally preferred the sling. It was much easier and faster to slip on.
3 years ago, I never knew such baby slings existed but for my next baby, I definitely want to master the art of slinging and that baby better love a sling. Anyone interested in a second hand Baby Bjorn then?

We did not really have a choice whether to use a baby carrier/sling or not because using the Tube in London and travelling in Europe would have been *hell* if we used a pushchair. The Baby Bjorn was our best purchase of all the baby stuff we bought. After Sophie grew out of it, we used the Ergo Baby Carrier, another lifesaver.
