Doing things differently

Tee, my daughter of five years old, ever since she was 18 months old and possibly even earlier except that my memory doesn’t stretch that far, has always done things differently. She is a little rebel that will do just the opposite of what you tell her to do. She wears her Croc shoes mismatched, she wears her socks mismatched, she coordinates her clothes horribly, and she just wants to be different. All. The. Time. Daringly different.

It must be my influence…..*sheepishly hides away*…….but I’m not that crazy. There is a fine line between being unique and being psychotic. I am certainly nowhere near the latter.

During a playgroup at my place one day, a Mom had presented a lovely personalised bracelet to each of the girls there that day and of course, we had to get a picture of the girls showing off their bracelets. See, first of all, Tee has to be the only one that is seated on higher ground to show off her bracelet……

And then when the picture taking session was over and the girls attention diverted to other things, Tee caught me still snapping and refused to join the girls in what they were seeing. She didn’t care.

Later, when we had an indoor picnic lunch, everyone sat down nicely and ate their food. What did my monkey do? Do you see her joining the rest?

Even when we first started school at 20 months old, she would not listen to her teacher and not participate in anything that the class was up to. She had her own agenda and nothing could make her do what the rest of the class was doing. Yet, she was absorbing every bit of information during class as this was regurgitated several years later.

Kids are really amazing!!! And this is testament that even if your kids are not paying attention, they are still absorbing like a super magnetic sponge at that age because quite honestly, Tee could recite the songs taught when she was 20 months old, a whole 2 years later. She could also remember stuff taught that was only taught in that particular school, she was practically a baby then.

How do they remember such stuff!???

  1. Tee went to school at 20 months old?? What kind of school? Where?

And yes, kids, as in babies, observe and absorb things so fast and so much….I am also seeing this in my barely 3-year-old. She is singing songs that we sang to her when she was newborn/few months old and now, sometimes, out of the blue, she would start singing the song again.

    Kids are just amazing!
