Disasters in the kitchen

Now I know why I like going out. It’s because I don’t have to step into the kitchen!

The Hubs says I am good both in the kitchen and the boardroom and am only whinging because I cannot fire my own kids whereas I can fire my staff. What do kids have to do with the kitchen? Does he think they are my assistant chefs? Perhaps not, but they are most certainly the most annoying pests in ANY KITCHEN!!! I can never do anything in peace before one or the other will start demanding for something or other and in between my cooking and going in and out of the kitchen to attend to those demands, inevitably I will forget that I have something going on in the kitchen.

This morning was a triple whammy. My brain told me I was going to cook my baby’s porridge in my new Thermopot (woot!) and of course, the reason I bought a thermopot was so I would STOP burning things in the kitchen since it does not require the gas or electric stove. And so even when my brain TOLD me that I was going to cook my porridge in the Thermopot, my body took over and started boiling porridge in a conventional pot on the gas stove. And when I realised all of 15 minutes later, did I transfer the boiling porridge into the thermopot? And risk scalding myself with hot boiling porridge? No, of course not. I’d already burnt myself a couple of days ago. Once a week is enough burn marks on my already dilapidating body. Besides, it would have meant an extra pot to wash…….

So we continued the day with our conventional porridge boiling in our conventional pot and suddenly whilst cleaning some baby poop, I heard bubbling, then sizzling, then an overflow of water splash. CRAP. By the time I got into the kitchen, half the stove was filled with hot wet spinach. I cursed and got the pot off the stove and put it onto a new hob, removed the grates on one side so I could clean it up whilst the pot boiled on the other side.

But before I could finish, there was a “MOM!!!! QUICK!!! MOM!!!” yell from the bedroom. Why do they have to venture into the bedroom when there is a HUGE living room beside the kitchen to contend with, you tell me? So it turns out as it always does, that the extremely trivial problem was in fact an extremely trivial event, like T2 is dancing………..or T2 smiled at me……….or T2 is digging the dustbin.

Oh. My. God. I always get interrupted with such banalities, bless my T1. OK, it is kind of amusing. No, it is extremely entertaining, whenever T2 dances so yes, I guess it IS a big deal whenever she does dance.

Of course, when I get back to the kitchen as luck would have it, the pot is overflowing again and spinach is all over the second half of the stove.

Ahhhhh…….such are my minor adventures with kitchens. I just love it.

  1. Don’t forget to use the Thermopot tomorrow!!! I’m fighting with people at work now so RIGHT NOW, I’d rather be burning pots than talking rubbish with a bunch of imbeciles at work.

  2. I dont mind to pinjam u my slow cooker.

U cut everything like what u would need do for conventional cooking n dump everything inside. Turn the cooker on at 10pm and it will be ready in the morning. U dont need to check whatsoever and it will never over heat. The food would not stick at the bottom of the pot too..

  3. Yes, i think using slow cooker works best… So far i failed at both board room and kitchen.. but with slow cooker, no accident yet so far.. 🙂

  4. just use a slow cooker.. and dun tell me you can burn porridge in slow cooker k ?
    tip – use a timer.. I set to cook at 11pm – 3am – ON,, 3am – 6am – OFF,, 6am-8am – ON.. and you’ll hv hot porridge for breakfast.
I use time for everything.. slow cooker..washing machine… lamps.. can’t live without it !

  5. Aiyo… you poor little soul!

The pot you cook porridge in is too small and I think you always use ‘HIGH’ heat thus you tend to burn your pots… remember about the soup that day??? 😛

I agreed with the rest, I think is best you go with the slow cooker too!!! 😛
