Designing Fashion for Models

For T1’s birthday, one of the presents she received was this fashion designing book from Australia that she has not put down since. She has spent hours on end drawing and colouring and being more and more creative each day with her designs. She even designed a diving suit!!! And we do not discuss diving nor do we dive, so I’m not sure where the influence comes from. Most definitely the idiot box. Yup, that must be the culprit. I suppose it’s not a bad thing.

It’s a great book that I think most 6 year old girls would love as they can draw and stretch their imagination to no end. It reminds me of my paper doll set that I shared with my childhood friend. We had over 1500 outfits that were all designed and cut out to perfection!!! She still keeps it today and I must go and photograph it one day so I can show it to you.

One day, T1 designed a hairstyle that was rather impractical with a ponytail on one side of the head of the model and hair spikes sticking out of the other side of the model’s head. It looked almost like a fan was blowing the hair up. I asked her, “What kind of design is that???!!!!”

She proudly announced, “It’s called alien head”

I challenged her, knowing she didn’t know much about hair gel and such, “How is her hair going to stand up to the side like that?”

“Oh, there are hair clips holding her hair up…” she replied confidently.

I challenged her further, “But hair clips won’t hold it up like THAT! You try and see with your own hair?” I passed her a bunch of hair clips and showed her some practical laws of physics. No matter how she clipped her hair, there was just no way 6 inches of hair would stand out horizontally to the side.

“I will just make sure I have even MORE clips to hold her hair up.”

I shook my head very unconvinced…..

“So how?” I questioned her. “When you design something, you need to make sure it works!”

“OH, this is in T1 land!!! It doesn’t HAVE to work!!!” she retorted. And her mind was thinking out loud JUST PISS OFF MOMMY!!! I swear I could hear it.
