Children inheriting our genes

It’s fascinating how each of us have little bits of our parents and then sometimes, even our grandparents. Looks aside, I was observing my baby T2 the other day and thought, oh my God, she is so like me. I didn’t tell anyone though although now I’m sharing it with the world wide web as it isn’t something to be proud of. (*note for English experts – in my last sentence, when you have a sentence that has both a past tense and a present tense in the same sentence, would you then conclude with past or present? I’m assuming both are correct. Anyone? ….world wide web as it wasn’t/isn’t something to be …….)

T2 was pulling out the drawer tray on her Fisher Price magna doodle toy and then pushing it back in except that she could it push it back in easily enough but could not pull it back out as the friction was a bit sticky. This frustrated her after a few tries as she knew that the tray could come in and out but why wouldn’t it freaking come out easily?! She kept trying and trying and finally, I offered to help but she pushed my hand away. Then I tried to SECRETLY help her by pulling it out a little so it’d be easier for her to pull it out without her watching but she immediately looked at me and scolded me, then pushed it back in so she could attempt the task of pulling it out again ALL BY HERSELF. Is this pride working? She wouldn’t accept any help!!! And she was so determined to do it by herself!!!

In the end, she started kicking and scolding the toy *faint*

It reminds me of a fishing trip I once had with some friends a few years back. I told myself that no matter what, I was going to catch at least one fish and one squid. All night, I’d be concentrating on the boat, waiting for any sign of a bite. After a long time, friends offered to change my rod or to give me more bait but I was determined to do it like everyone else. And eventually, I did catch my fish and my squid, and only then did I start relaxing. Sad but true. We had a hearty seafood meal immediately after we returned to the resort! And I was beaming in pride!

Is that sheer determination or pure kiasu-ness?

As with T1, she inherited other traits from me but I shan’t be sharing them today.

  1. funny, my no.2 also like that wor….but is she tried so hard and still cannot get it, she will go “mummy, help!” . 🙂 …i think no. 2 are generally more stubborn (i’m also a no. 2) .:p

  2. I call that commitment 🙂 Better than those with the “tidak apa” attitude, which as you know, is abundance in our country. T2, your future MIL is very proud of you. You go, GIRL!!!

P/S: I am drooling over your shoes. Unfortunately, I won’t part with more than RM150 for a pair of shoes (unless they are runners which I can pound on them).
