Childhood Stories

It started with a simple request.

“Dad, tell us about your mom and dad.”

This came during Cheng Beng when we had to defer our flights to Kota Bharu due to Covid-19 and I asked the girls what they remembered of their own grandparents from both sides followed by them sharing about us. It totally shocked me some of the things they remembered. What goes through a child’s mind is really unbelievable, puts me on the spot and makes me think real hard about what life is.

I decided to be the child to ask my Dad how he remembers his parents out of curiosity and since that day, he has been enriching my life with the most amazing stories from the earliest memory of his childhood every single day. We have reached the part where I was 3 years old and it is now something that I look forward to every single day! Every day, he has a chapter for me and my brothers of about 2-3 paragraphs and it is fucking brilliant. It shows me how important it is to document our stories for my girls, and whoever comes after, to be carried down for generations to come.

So many things are making me smile during this home time. We have eaten at home, home cooked food since MCO began. Not a single meal ordered from outside. It feels different, my body. Even despite all the cakes and cookies that we bake daily, we still feel ‘clean’. Which goes to show just how bad the food outside is.

I have been busy working out how to pay for all our bills because we are really over-budget this year. There are so many people I wish to help but I just cannot anymore. Not on the big scale.

Anyway the plan is to start a new website separate from Mamapumpkin and then slowly migrate Mamapumpkin under the new website so the planning of that is ongoing. We have evolved and can no longer be Mamapumpkin. Mamapumpkin was good whilst the kids were young but it is now 15 years old and it is time. I will keep you posted when the migration happens so you can still find me on the world wide web. If not, there is always good ol’ FACEBOOK!
