Childhood friends

Who is your longest childhood friend? Is she/he your best-est friend?

I’m a sentimental old fart when it comes to friendship and have picked up many friends along the way. However, I’ve also lost many and wished that I’d been taught how to stay in touch at a young age because even facebook can’t find me those friends now! Where the heck are you Samantha Wong Mi Shan? Where the heck are you Lisa Ibrahim? Where the heck are you Balkish Hanum? It is so interesting to stay in touch and see how everyone has changed and developed or not at all, and besides, keeping the bond just strengthens the possibility of making more love not war.

I’ve got friends at every stage of my life and wished I had more but am grateful for what I have and the few that are entering my life at this late stage. Of course, along the way, I’ve also lost some sad to say.

So with my girls, I want to offer them the opportunity to stay in touch with all their friends because quite simply, it’s just a nice, heart warming thing to do. Don’t you think? I truly wished I’d known how to stay in touch with all the people I’ve met in my life – SO MANY!!! Well, never too late.

This is Imran, T1’s friend since they were in diapers. T1 has an older group of friends since she was 4 months old (even at birth) but they’ve all moved abroad. Every single one of them. There were 4 others, all abroad now. She no longer keeps in touch with them but Mama does.

With this toddler group, at least she knows who they are as we have sort of kept in touch more regularly but it’s hard when the kids schedules are so tight with school. It is hopeful that T1 is able to maintain her friendships with the kids she has played with since she was in diapers. She doesn’t make girl friends so easily as she says girls are really complicated – it’s always one day friend, next day no friend, jealousy, sensitivity, catty remarks……….they’ve all only come from girls. That’s why she prefers boys. Boys are simple. They just play and think no further about whether you like them more than another boy or whatever. I agree with her. But it’s still nice to have some girlfriends and thankfully, T1 has been very selective with whom she considers her girlfriends. She’s very loyal, my girl, but unfortunately, not everyone else is.

Imran gets along great with T1 and I like him a lot. His Mama is of Italian-German descent and owns the Tennis shop over at the LG floor in Bangsar Village. If you’re a sports or tennis enthusiast, do go check it out because they are professionals over there. No one strings a racket like they do.

Here’s to Imran and Tessa. Friends forever. Insyallah.

  1. Does she still keep in touch with Imran? Good friends are like a breeze of fresh air. Some of my better friends are the ones made in the past 2 years *wink* while I only have ONE really good friend (you’ve met her) whom I trust with my life, who is now in Singapore. True friends are hard to come by.

  2. i agree with Tee about girlfriends 🙂 True friends are really hard to find 🙂 i’m glad i have a bunch whom i’ve known for over 30 years. Can’t find those whom I knew as a kid. I hope Ashley would have loyal friends and stay true to them 🙂

  3. I only have one true and bestest friend – and he’s my hubby. Not even femail. hehhe. Thanks for the tennis shop info by the way cos I may need to get Ash her racquet next year. Plus cute tennis skirt..hehehe..or she might want to wear her long maxi and her crown..i don’t know. **groan**
