Breakfast at Ikea Ikano Malaysia

For your information, breakfast is open at Ikea at 9am-11am all week. Don’t hope for the usual Ikea spread as it’s not ready till lunch time.

We started the day off with breakfast at Ikea (my choice) as we had to return some shelves. We had their 99 cents Char Kuay Teow which tasted like flour and soya sauce. Oh my God, do you know how many people eat that stuff?? I was asking the Hubs, why in the world would anyone want to eat IKEA Char Kuay Teow when the Char Kuay Teow at the hawker or the coffee shop or the market tastes a million times better???

“99 cents” was his reply. I didn’t even think it was worth 99 cents!

As a diabetic, there was absolutely nothing I could eat at Ikea, short of their green salad but green salad for breakfast didn’t quite turn me on. We also tried their siew pau, egg tart, chicken wings, cinnamon roll……sorry to say, everything was rubbish. Except the coffee.

All these kiasu Malaysians were urging each other to grab more coffee since it was free refills. “Get 10 cups! Make your moneys worth!”

Ikea has really studied their markets well, that much I can say. If you make it cheap or better if it’s free, Malaysians will flock it. At 930am, the Ikea cafeteria was packed.

After our business in Ikea, Tee said she wanted to eat chicken rice for lunch. Not realising that there was a chicken rice kiosk downstairs, I suggested Sushi King instead. Another bad move!

Check back for what happened at Sushi King.

  1. notice how they keep downgrading their coffee machine choices ? from many to only coffee or coffee with milk. Why? Becoz everybody was a barista wannabe and spoiling the machine ! Sometimes, even the coffee sucks too !

  2. I second your observation about the ‘free/cheap’ attitude or mentality.

The meaning of quality is often lost!

Don’t expect consideration, graciousness, appreciation to come readily. They are usually all taken for granted in this part of the world!

  3. Same here in Indonesia, the cheaper, the better and more customer although the taste is awful.
I guess the Malaysian and Indonesian have some similar character after all.
