People are always shocked when they learn that my parents are Muslim. Then when they find out that my Mother is married to a Malay, they go, “ohhhh……no wonder!”

But in actual fact, my Mom became a Muslim way before she married Tok-Tok and it had nothing to do with Tok-Tok! Mom purposefully chose to follow the religion and up till today cleanses herself, wears her full praying outfit, gets onto her prayer mat and prays 5 times a day! And she was doing this way before her cancer came knocking as well. For that and for all the good that she has done to and for the people around her, I am certain she will go to the brightest place in Heaven.

Islam is a beautiful religion. It is only the twisted people in Malaysia and extremists around the world that give it a bad name. If you actually took the time and effort to learn it, should you be so keen and interested, you will find that it is a beautiful religion.

Will I be a Muslim then? Not anytime soon I don’t think. But only because I don’t believe in being one particular religion or following rules per se. As long as one has sprituality and is close to God/A Higher Being, always does good; one is safe to enter the other world at peace. I know many purportedly religious people who have black hearts, gamble, have distasteful behaviours and so on – really, what is the point then of going to Church every Sunday?
