I had the privilege of interviewing an American in Malaysia who’s spent the last 60 plus years here after having gone through World War 2 in her childhood from America. It was one of the most enriching experiences after having dealt with Malaysian women day in day out for the last 10 years. For a few years now, I have been feeling rather restless because I don’t feel challenged in Malaysia. I’ll be really honest and this is why I have been bugging the Hubs to migrate to London, another reason why we have been there more often in the recent years. The Hubs had agreed.
And then May 9th 2018 happened.
We decided well, why don’t we give this new Government a try. Reformasi? Who knows? Maybe the old man has changed. Maybe his successor would bring light to Malaysia. Maybe.
Soon after, we bought a new house since the girls were growing up and wanting a puppy and all, so what was meant to go to London ended up in the new house. It’s a nice house so we really look forward to moving in by the end of this year by Christmas. Pray construction would be smooth!
With my American old lady friend, who really is like family to me, we talked about the history of Malaya and Malaysia. We talked about people and their idiosyncrasies and why people do what they do. Inherently, everyone is good but it is because of past negative incidents that would make one to start being bad. We talked about the philosophies of life. We talked about how she was doing and caught up where we left off. We talked about my health challenges. We talked about book clubs and books. We talked about religion and Government. I so miss these real conversations!!!
If I was so brazenly inclined, I would have asked her if I could join her book club. I want to spend the next phase of my life reading, painting, hanging out with interesting people, traveling and writing. Oh, and still raising my kids to be their best versions of themselves.
But then, something is pulling me to set a new goal. There is always this force that pushes me to achieve better. It is like a tit for tat. If I spent RM10 on helping someone else live a better life, I would like to spend another RM10 on myself and my family.
I should be enjoying my life right now but this force is pushing me to get another property in London and invest in a crystal grand piano for my new house. My daughter on the other hand, says her dream is to live in a New York Penthouse facing the Chrysler Building. Sounds like a plan!
