On the Eve of Christmas Eve….

I got that from NTV7 this morning. Yeah, whilst we three have our breakfast, we take turns fighting over choosing channels instead of sit facing one another on the dining table.

Anyway, I have not done my Christmas shopping. *nods head* I am serious. I’m not too fussed because my Dutch friend just told me that in Holland, Christmas really isn’t about giving presents, so I’ll use that as an excuse and get my presents later. Like tomorrow or the day after or after that…….

I don’t even have anything for T2 yet and Santa still has to get T1 and T2’s pressies. I just haven’t had the time! Oh my goodness! And before I go on, for those of you who have emailed me regarding stuff for sale, please bare with me. I will respond as soon as I can.

Today, I switched off my phone to see how productive I could actually get without technology in the way. It hurt. Gosh, it hurt so much. So what I got out of it was that T1 and I, we got to paint 3 paintings together. It was satisfying. A little retreat from technology. But as the day went on, I’ll admit I switched it on whilst T2 boobed just before her nap. Just in case, someone was trying to get me, you know, in the event of an emergency! See how reliant on technology we are these days. I am SO ashamed.

We also got to play Pictureka, which turned out to be quite fun; and did a myriad more kiddy activities. All for the kids…….

By the afternoon, I was getting antsy. At least, my phone keeps me in touch with some adult communication even if it is via facebook! The Hubs reminds me, my kids are supposed to be my life…….he doesn’t talk to them 24/7 day-in-day-out, and for the last 6 years at that.

And then. Horror of all horrors, T2 climbed my dining chair, lost her balance, fell head first and banged the front of her head against the very solid hard wood leg of my dining table corner and then fell backwards and bumped the back of her head on the floor. Double whammy!

My heart dropped. I picked her up and she started crying and wanted to boob immediately but whilst I was getting prepared, I noticed her forehead swelling. It was red with a bruise and the size of an egg protruding out from her head and it kept growing!!!

I was terrified.

I remember T1’s freak accident very clearly and remember the Doctor saying that the immediate ice on T1’s head concussion saved her so I refused T2 the boob and ran towards the freezer and grabbed some ice cubes. She screamed and kicked a fuss whilst I pressed the ice on her bulge gently. I didn’t know if it was the pain or the cold that pissed her off. Perhaps both. And I shouted at T1 to start packing things up so I could just get her head looked at by the Doctor. I am really paranoid when it comes to head injuries. Really.

Amazingly though, the ice had really brought the swelling down by about three quarters of an inch so the Doctor said she should be OK. She’s fine, just a tad manja today. So much for all those gorgeous Xmas photos. We now will have a Christmas memory of a head bump. The Doctor did warn that the blood clot on her head could possibly drip down to her eye area, so she might get a black eye too but not to worry about it. Poor, poor T2.

The Hubs and I have decided that we will tie both kids up onto the couch daily to avoid any more heart attacks. Seriously, these two kids? They really get my adrenalin pumping and blood pressure rising. Every day.

Tomorrow morning, I have to drag them two out early to go pick up our gorgeous Christmas cake. Oh, I can’t wait to put on another 3 kilos this Christmas. I have given strict instructions to my brothers to help my Mother out for Christmas Eve dinner whilst I do my last minute Christmas shopping with the girls. Oh, why does everything I do have to be with the girls!! Bah.

And then a mega Christmas Day on Saturday where we have our traditional family Christmas lunch, followed by the birthday party cum Christmas party of my maid-of-honour, followed by the wedding of a close family friend. We are just going to die right there on Christmas night. Usually, we would just decline but all 3 just happen to be people whom we are close to and it’s just one of those things, you now? I only wished they were not all happening on the very same day. T2 will not survive so we might consider the Hubs and her staying home in the afternoon for a nap.

I read T1’s letter to Santa today. She was supposed to have written it ages ago but suddenly remembered today and got on to it immediately even though I told her that it was probably too late. She really made me proud with her list as she had done it all by herself with no preempting from anyone at all.

Last year, she’d made a list of 10 things all for herself and 1 thing for her sister, but this year, and OH, again I must say how PROUD I am of her, she had only 1 thing on her list for herself. Can you believe it? My girl is really growing up. She wrote on her list – 1 unit Famous Five book. Just ONE!!!

Then she added on, a coffee machine for my parents, a pink hand bag for T2 (since she is such a girly-girl), more money for Uncle Ben (hmm….has Uncle Ben been telling her he needs more money?), no more cancer for Nana, more cigars for Tok-Tok and a new(or old) girlfriend for Uncle Justin. Bless her. She was thinking of her family. That’s a first step. Hopefully, we would have made more progress next year and moved on to friends and then eventually strangers and the less fortunate. Go T1!

Have a Blessed Christmas one and all. May you have good cheer, be merry, stay safe and surround yourselves with lots of love. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
