Back to our Chiang Mai posts *grins*

Well, it’s 5 years now that I’ve been traveling to Chiang Mai with kids so I can definitely tell you what to do and what not to do *grins*

I wouldn’t say that Chiang Mai is tremendously kid friendly but with any 3rd world city, there is enough things to entertain children for a week. We only go for food, weather and friends – not necessarily in that order. But if you’ve never been to Chiang Mai, then you should certainly go and if you’re worried about things for kids, there is:-

1. The amazing Chiang Mai zoo – much cleaner than our KL zoo and is very big. You have the option of riding on an overhead train to view the animals if you’re too lazy to walk (it’s a LONG walk uphill downhill and uphill again. Steep hills too….great for the leg muscles.)

2. The Tiger Kingdom – how often would you and kids get a chance to touch a real tiger and get photographed directly next to one?

3. The Elephant Farm – watch elephants paint (and their paintings are worthy of framing up on your walls!), play football, do acrobatic stunts, play games and sit on an elephant going through the jungle trail – very scary!!! A narrow path and should the elephant trip, down you go. Definitely an adrenaline rush for adults and much fun for kids.

4. Visit 3 of the many million temples in Chiang Mai to wave to Buddha and pray for good exam results.

5. The night bazaar will offer kids a colourful experience. An array of knick-knacks of every sort in every colour and little games here and there for fun.

6. Visit the waterfalls for a picnic.

7. Go for a class (for bigger kids) – Chiang Mai offers many classes from handicraft to cooking to massage to art and craft to dance to learning Thai to batik to…..

8. Take your children for a taste expedition. Chiang Mai has so many delightful desserts and goodies for experiment on the palettes and you’re bound to find something you like.

I’ve forgotten now where I’d gotten up to in my  holiday log so I’ll just randomly post some pictures. Below is the restaurant we ate dinner at one day. Look how huge that fish is!

It was a road side restaurant but food was so good!

Hmm….I wonder why I have no photos of the food? I must’ve been on baby duty that night. And just look at these two love-birds, being anti-social after dinner, plonked themselves away from the rest of us…..whispering secret sweet nothings……

At some point, I needed hot water for baby so I asked the restaurant for some and this is how they boiled their water! Kong-Kong paid them a tip separately, just because they were kind enough to boil his grandaughter water.

And see? The kids had fun…….

They’re always laughing crazy, these two.

After dinner, we proceeded to this very famous birds nest desert stall which we’ve been frequenting year after year and practically watched the stall owner’s baby grow up into a little girl. It is located at the night bazaar.

It is so yummy. Birds nest with gingko and ice. Some of us had 3 bowls.

Spotted this fish spa at the market that of course, T1 wanted to go to but I said no. Who knows how many people have soaked their smelly feet in there!

The next day, we went to the Tiger Kingdom. T1 was very scared at first even though it was a 6 week old baby cub. Children are only allowed to hang out with the cubs as err….well…..the big tigers could potentially swallow them up in a flash.

Look at T1, haha….legs all up.

But finally, she overcame fear and managed a shot with baby tiger…..
