Party Packs in Malaysia

When we were in Australia, I wondered if the typical Aussie kids party provided kids with party packs like in Malaysia and if they did, what went into them assuming that Aussies were more health conscious and I never got my answer. In the end, I got the kids each a long bubble wand the length of their arm so they could bubble away and bubble away they did!

Many party packs we get from the parties we attend locally are filled with junk food and sweets, some add some small toys into their party packs and some actually give books (hurrah!). However, it irks me that because of this, kids almost EXPECT to receive a party pack every time they attend a party!!! Now I don’t even remember going to that many parties in my youth, perhaps one or two before the age of 10 and I never got a party pack. T1 has attended EASILY 200 parties in her lifetime and I’ll bet my bottom dollar that she received a party pack at almost every single one.

Just last weekend, she attended yet another party but this time, she didn’t get a party pack. She got a party truck! There were just too many goodies that Uncle Ben was jealous and asked her if he could have some of her loot. I just eyed the Hersheys….LOL

I asked T1 then after her fantabulous party, that if she had a lot of money, enough to hold an awesome party like the one she’d just attended, how much she’d spend on a party and how much she’d give away to the poor children who had no food. She said that if she had RM10, she’d give away RM6 to the poor children, RM2 for her party and save RM2. Such a compassionate soul, and I told her that with her RM2, she certainly wouldn’t be able to have a great party like that! She was so mature about it, said she knew…..then added, “But it was a REALLY great party!!!”

I told her that if I were her, I’d have spent RM2 on the party, RM2 for the poor, and kept the balance for my savings myself. I guess we are different that way. Age has probably made me more selfish although if I had a lot of money, I’d probably be giving a lot of it away too. I think!

Anyway, I hate that kids expect party packs after a party. They should be grateful they even got INVITED to one!!!

  1. wooooaaahhh.. 200 parties… gooly has been *count with my 11 fingers* to 2 parties only! And nvr had a party which he could invite his own friends before (cos he didnt really have any frens in Bkk, or rather I didn’t :P). Next yr, I asked if he would like to have a party (like finally!) or to spend it with his papah in bkk. He chose the latter. 🙂 Phew! I was so scared of organising a lauyar party wei!

Btw, went to the dentist today, nearer one. 😉

  2. I don’t know about receiving as Bryan doesn’t get invited to any parties (except his cousins, because my brothers don’t have a choice!) but I personally like packing the party packs for the kids and seeing their faces light up. Bryan also enjoyed giving away the party packs. So to me, that is my motivation.

  3. i have collected lots of sweets too from the party pack my kids are getting. So much that I can even reuse them to pack party packs!

  4. I must say some of the so called junk food are really nice of taste so I do eat them.. But normally sweets I don’t allow my boy to eat. I’ll get rid of them bit by bit without him realising 😛
