Running a pre-loved goods business

Oh. My. Goodness.

Last week, I uploaded some stuff for sale to kick start the house clearance since we have SO MUCH STUFF and little did I realise just how much work it involved!!! I thought, oh yeah….I’ll upload them at my own pace, and then as an when there is an order, I’ll make a trip to the post office to send it off but boy, was I wrong. This is it. I have not used my brain for administration work for more than 10 years and suddenly, I am overwhelmed with orders and enquiries through email and I’m struggling to keep track of who ordered what and how many and where and how much and OH, CALAMITY!!!

I now need to start an excel sheet to track my orders and postage and write out a terms and conditions page because right now, everything is just floating in my head. I know, it’s worrying, isn’t it? You may end up getting some baby socks instead of that pair of Chanel shoes and if that is the case, I am SO SORRY. If you’re still waiting for a response from me, I am getting to it. Thank you for your patience, the email list is very looooong……

THANK YOU for your patience whilst I sort out the logistics for my new little business, if I can call it that. It started out as a house clearance exercise but looking at demand, I’m making it a business *rubs hands together with a big grin*

My first sale was my breastfeeding pump and Logan the Lion. So sad when I was packing up the pump (don’t care about Logan, sssshhhh don’t tell T2 nor T1, who will fight for T2……alas, the pump will be used to nourish a baby who needs it more than we do).

THANK YOU to those of you who bought all the other stuff. Cold hard cash is one thing, but seeing my house get emptier and emptier is real happiness for me. We have SO MUCH STUFF!!! And too little space. In fact, today I am again going out to hand deliver more products and make another visit to the post office, which brings me to this point. I have absolutely zero experience when it comes to posting so I contacted Pos Malaysia and Mailboxes Etc (that I’ve seen around Bangsar Village). The difference? With Pos Malaysia, I waited 10 minutes before I was asked to call another number, which is the number of Pos Laju direct (all this means nothing to me, I just followed instructions). Then when I called the second number, the person who answered the phone couldn’t understand English so asked me to wait till another person got on. This took another 5 minutes. Then after understanding that I was calling to enquire about opening an account with the Post Office for Pos Laju services (and mind you, I still don’t know how all this works nor how much it costs), the lady told me to call an Encik So and So and handed me a mobile number. So I call Encik So and So and he says I don’t need to give him a deposit. I tell him I have no idea what he is talking about, I am just calling to enquire about opening an account with Pos Laju. He says, “wait-wait, I am in the bank now. I’ll call you later.” Who knows if he will return my call later.

Can someone tell me just what it takes to have an account with Pos Laju so they can come here to collect the parcels and how much everything will cost and what exactly it involves and how do I go about doing it? Why is it so hard to get some simple information??? And I’m sure Pos Malaysia will say everything is on the website, have you read the website? I must be really dense because I couldn’t find out how to open an account with them…..

So. Then I called Mailboxes Etc expecting it to be very expensive but you will be surprised! The cost to deliver a large box to Penang, is actually cheaper than what Pos Malaysia quoted me! So who do you think I will use when Bangsar Village is just down the road and they will even pack it for me…..who? Who-who? And just for the record, they answered my questions in record time. Ask, check list, answer. Ask, check list, answer. No waiting-waiting-waiting……and more waiting……as though us Moms are so free to wait whilst we paint our toe nails. Excuse me but I’m a very busy business woman here! Blek!

So the plan is to eventually upload ALL OUR STUFF online and then start marketing them in other blog shops etc. Err….this may take another 3 years but at least it is within the deadline of moving to Perth. If that happens. Wish me luck, y’all!
